The walks were accompanied by a terrific symphony of bird songs. Because of that, we choose to walk in the mornings around 6:30 - 730 and again near sundown. We wish we had our pal John Spencer here to help us spot and identify the various birds. We met John last year in Guatemala. He runs ablog at www.bajabirder.com John lives in southern Baja Mexico. Check out his camerawork.
... is spectacular and mostly undeveloped, in those parts we could have been anywhere in the world (with mountains, lake, deep forests and the occasional tea plantation).
Then back to town for spice shopping in a small shop jammed with locals. Bought vanilla, lots of assorted Indian spices, and a fruit cake to give to some unsuspecting soul back home for Christmas. I also visited a local state wine store and bought a bottle of Maharashtra ...

kodaikanal, tamilnadu, India kodaikanal... a different sort of curry, dry, wet, saucy, mild, spicy and inside the tray goes a large portion of rice, and its often accompanied with some popadoms. With your pick-n-mix special of 8 different flavourer's and textures of curry its great value, but its also an all-you-can-eat affair, the waiters won't stop filling your plate. All for less than a pound. Brilliant. We had planned to go walking in the surrounding forests and hills ...
Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India coopertrooper... which consisted of a series of colorful disco lights. Vehicles and decor here are so funny. I can't say my initial arrival into Kodaikanal instilled much passion for the place. Based on the drive up and the scenery, I thought I would love it here. Ushered out into the normal crowds of taxi drivers (they don't use rickshaws in Kodaikanal, I assume because of the weather...), I have multiple people bidding for my lot. In the end I wind up going to a hotel with the ...

We drove 30km to a place called Top Station which is in Tamil Nadu, this is basically the high point and you can, if it is not cloudy, look down over the Western Ghats. It was impressive enough even with the cloud. We're heading off tomorrow to Peryiar Wildlife Sanctuary in the hope of seeing some Tigers, chances are we wont, but I think it is a certainly to see Elephants and some other animal that are not indigenous to the UK or Bristol zoo.
