Well, the first week has gone pretty quick. I've spoken more Japanese in the last couple of days than I have in the last couple of years! It's been really fun. I thought that I would share with you some things that I have learnt about myself since arriving in Japan.
1. I am hopeless at reading maps. I always thought it was the Gregory's directory, but no... it's me. I have ...
... s horrible. Think Maccona, Nescafe, Arriva. That's what I'm dealing with here people. Even coffee houses serve up the same filter-brewed mess. Nightmare on Cafe Street. You can ride the most efficient public transport system, buy the world's most advanced technology, **** in a loo that sings to you, but not buy a good cup of coffee. Anyway, never again.
After breakfast, I did a bit of shopping, had a wander ...
... hope was lost, a sign that pointed to where I wanted to go! Hoorah! It took another 20 mins, but eventually I came upon the famed garden of Noritake where some of the world's most beautiful porcelain is produced.
To be honest it was quite underwhelming. The garden was pretty, but nothing spectacular. There were some interesting reindeer interpretations around, but I still think it would have been cooler to tie red ...

... and live-action dramas in several languages. We subsequently watched it every day while we were in Nagoya.
Supper was at a place called Ebisuya. They specialize in kishimen, a broad rice noodle. Their basic kishimen wasn’t very expensive and the portion was big enough. And it was really good. It was garnished with katsuo bushi (dried, flaked tuna; used in dashi or as garnish); I was afraid the flavor would be too strong, but it ...
... just started. We had a month long of Summer holidays in August. I worked 2 weeks during Summer to earn some cash...and then flew home for 2 weeks. Twas such a nice Summer. I came back a week early, but the weather was horrible, so wasn't able to do anything that exciting. So anyway. Term 2. Last week I welcomed back..(unwillingly :oP) my 17 + (3 new) students. I have been warned by all the teachers that this term will be a crazy one. There's going to Sports Day ...
Nagoya, Japan vicki85... to go to: two held by my schools and two hosted by friends. So, on top of the break from work, the holiday is providing a great chance to dry out from all the heavy drinking. One party in particular left me questioning whether I should ever touch a Long Island Iced Tea again. Then I neglect to consider the amazake (sweet sake) that goes hand in hand with Japanese New Year's celebrations. . . Christmas itself is always interesting in Japan. Seeing ...
Nagoya, Japan xerius... a night. Thursday 4.19, enjoyed a nice day at Meijo University with the pharmacy students there. We listened to case presentations, went on rounds with doctor/nurse/pharmacist teams and listened to a presentation on aspiration pneumonia. Afterwards, a pizza party was held in our honor and lots of fun was had. In addition to American guest, Meijo paid host to a guest professor from Sainte Thomas University in Manila, Phillipines. The guy ...
Nagoya, Japan tomerlin_rs... they will tell you that they loved your class to your face and then go and complain about you to your school director. They are especially apt to do so for really expensive classes. Several of my friends have had some re-training as a result of such complaints, so I am really paranoid about these classes now. PRONUNCIATION ISSUES So a lesson I was working on with some adult students the other day called for them to describe how they pray. So, one student told us his ...
