Saturday-End of Trip French Alps 2009

... a 45 minute drive to Geneve, rush hour and not a gas
station in sight off the highway. I asked the GPS to help as I
neared the airport and was given directions to a BP station only a
couple of miles from the airport. The traffic was terrible and then
it dawned on me that I had no Swiss francs on me and had heard
stories that our American credit cards do not have a chip in them
like the European cards and will not work at gas stations. On my
last ...

That's about it

We sadly left Chamonix and vowed to return there in the winter, and drove to Annecy. Annecy was kind of a repeat of Prague, beautiful old city, on the water, with canals... we were kind of sick of that scene by then. They are applying to have the 2018 Olympics there, with the ski events at Mont Blanc. It would be a nice venue for sure.

Catching up....

... market here in the evening. We treated ourslve to new boules recently at a supermarket and tried them out here. Didn't play any better than previously, sad to say.
Took the bike to recce Chateauneuf Du Pape. A big fete celebrating the vines starts tomorrow and the very small town is already packed. Stalls everywhere. We walked up to the ruined chateau and discovered parkinf for several of us 'Camping Caristes'. Very, very ...

Annecy and the circus called 'Tour de France'

... for cycling and my love to France. I went to the time trial stage in Annecy. I can tell you that I had a good time. What stays with me is the commercialization of the event. It's a big thing. On the pics you can see impressions of a beautiful day.

... views across the lake and Mountains but it is quite misty and not good for photographs. I cooked up some rabbit legs for tea in the kitchen downstairs, I tend to be heavy handed with the herbs so the house filled with cooking smells. We went for a walk after tea and the house was being well ventilated when we returned. Perhaps not every one in the world appreciates my rabbit stew.

... with huge smiles and pats on the back. We haven't met a nicer group of people so far and it is just mind-blowing that they have this stigma of being rude. If my travels have taught me anything so far, it is that French people are nice. I know, not very deep, but after a month and lots of French people, we have started loving these guys. I am off to find a park and consume the tons of food we have from the market. Tomorrow it is off to Toures and then down to South Western France and Spain
