After picking up travel food from nearby restaurants, we metro'd over to the train station for our final train ride back to Madrid. While we were there at a cafe getting some breakfast, the guy in front of me bought two draft beers and a danish, the Spanish breakfast of champions. Beer seems to be considered a regular soft drink here in Spain. Any time a soft drink is a menu option, a can of beer is considered an equivalent option. Even in the McDonald's it is. When we were looking to get to...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands ditchthecubeToday is free day at the Museo del Prado so of course today is the day we went. Art museums are always a bit awkward for me. I have no formal training in art appreciation, so I just look at each picture for a few seconds and get the feeling of it and move on. I see the old paintings more as a window into a time before photography more than as of a work of art. It works for me but makes for poor conversation when people ask me "how did you like (insert name here)'s works?". I enjoyed it, but ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands ditchthecubeAfter a lazy start, we took the hour-long bus over to Toledo, southwest of Madrid. The city center is a densely packed bunch of streets atop a high hill overlooking the whole region. For our day there, Toledo could be called the city under renovation, because just about every major thing to see was closed for major repair. The one highlight was that the Museo de Santa Cruz was open (on Monday) and free until the end of June. The museum had a ton of old stones from the Roman era with Latin ca...

... Tour Group Sandemans. I really recommend this company, they are in most major cities. I actually did the free walking tour in Berlin a few years ago and it was really great, but unfortunately they were having problems with the opposition including the other tour company stalking tour groups, spitting on tourists doing the tour, and so on. Apparently they don’t like competition. So the walking tour in Madrid was on hold for a while ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands ddoumaniSorry for the lack of updates. I've been pretty busy with school, so not much time to party it up. Before pics of the long weekend, check this out: a few doors down from my house, there's a new little Korean restaurant owned by this nice little Korean woman. They have sushi, gyoza, bulgogi, tempura ...
Madrid, Spain johnny322... there! It was over much too quickly! On Monday, Paul and I took the train to Geneva, where we had an afternoon flight to Madrid. We left early so that we could spend some time walking through Geneva before our plane left, and although it was not the greatest weather we have had, it was great to be able to experience life in another city and we were also able to take in a few sites. We visited the Hotel de Ville, which was the site of the signing of the Geneva Convention ...

Madrid, Spain stevefn12/30/05 - 1/3/06 The train stations in Spain are like Airport terminals, complete with shops and restaurants. María and I take an early morning train to Madrid, which during this time María spent a couple of hours helping me work on improving my Spanish. Muchísimas Gracias María! María's ingenious travel plan included a great hotel on the Gran Via, the main vein of the theater district. We were located a block from the Lope ...
Madrid, Spain doniharrison... time and space with. Lust/desire come up as I hunger for connection. D's proposal scares and shames me. I feel I've used her. How to make amends?! I'm grieving giving up what I have used as relationship - sex, sensuality, business, doing nice things - instead of being a good person. When I think about taking Spanish,I think about making the process of living here easier. My mind also jumps to the possibility of being able to connect with women ...
