Thursday, I took 2.5 hours to complete my level 1 portuguese test. It was difficult; I was so glad that I had taken some Portuguese at the high school already, because it was quite a challenge. Prepositions are just the most difficult thing. But I finished eventually, went home, and ate some cute little sandwiches. ... I think I put a little too much into my first two weeks here. I don't have to be visiting a monument or going out with new friends or studying all the time, I don't think that's why I'm here. I think I'm here maybe just to learn to take care of myself. So I think I might just sit here all day with my crackers and tea and several liters of water and watch the pigeons, and women doing laundry and men building houses.

... Pant's apartment, which is situated on the top floor of a residential building above the mouth of the Tagus River. You could watch all the water traffic navigating in and out from the city ports and the Atlantic coast. There was even a bright red hammock that was way too comfortable. There is nowhere in Atlanta where you can find such fresh and delicious fruit like that; especially olives.
