Alone in Mexico CIty with my T

... fortune with misfortune, it subsided for a while this afternoon to a point where it was barely audible in bed, however it is now back with a vengence making me think it could very well be permenent which does not make me feel particularily great. Feel very isolated and alone, beginning to wonder whether going ahead with my travels after developing and trying to adapt to this disability was such a good idea...

Tijuana - dont go there...

... pitty and cursing myself was the only thing meeting Dawn did to me. getting to Chetumal, spending the night together in another cheap (very very cheap) hostel really convinced me that no matter what im getting out of Mexico first thing tomorrow morning. And so it was: Getting up really really early, hiding from Dawn, running away from the sleazy hostel i was in and hopefully catching the first Bus to Guatemalla was the first I did. But as you probably know by now, nothing is ...

VIRGIN OF GUADALUAPE Neither of us had any idea that this is the 3rd most visited Catholic shrine in the world after The Vatican and Lourdes. ... revellers turned up and commenced a drinking game - with the loud & passionate singing of more than 20 drunk Mexicans insisting we join in the sculling of beer and tequila, who could refuse? (especially when defending ones country against the Swiss). It was great! Well, I wish I had refused. When the party finally broke up, and all manner of farewells had been exchanged with our new lifelong friends, Thomas (more so) & I were a tad tipsy (read: roaring ****ing drunk ...

The View From Atop Is Grand

... from atop as the bus wound its way through all of the barrios. The cool thing about the bus was it came with headphone that could be plugged into the seat. Choose your language and you get a full history of Mexico City and its buildings. Traveling the full length of Reforma one gets a sense that youŽve stepped out of Mexico City and into France slightly. I remember reading that Porfirio Diaz created this street in the likeness of the Champs lŽEyse in Paris. I would believe it to ...

Raining Inside the Restaurant???

Today our group went back to pediatrics. Last time we were there we was Calisto (the malnourished 12 year old). The other groups have been telling us about how wonderful, and fun he is, but when we were with him, he just laid there (this was when his mom was there, and crying about her children "back home"). Today's visit was completely different. When walked in Calisto was waving, smiling and laughing, and trying to communicate with us. He looked SO MUCH BETTER! I ...

One week left!!!

... the day of the hurricane and was forced to sleep at the taxi driver's house because the roads were flooded. We keep getting hit by tropical storms so the middle room continuously floods. The other day we had lightning hit down so close to our house that we couldn't move for a second cuz it shook us to our cores, then my host mom ran through the house unplugging everything. We had a class outing on one of our Fridays to see some of the town sights and hold ...

... area and there were a lot of really cool ruins around. The bridge was absolutely beautiful but the planks didn't seem that stable and it was a long way down. We walked across the bridge, which swayed with a lot over to the caves area. We walked through the caves and came out another end to a beautiful view. We headed back and found out as we exited that they had a zip line across the canyon. A zip line is a thick strong line that is attached to both sides and ...

... through. I stood at the front on some of the beams and one of the remaining seats and looked out over the truck. I was careful to watch for branches that could easily hit me in the face. I showed off some of my matrix moves while avoiding the branches. That evening we went to see Star Wars III at the new theater. The sound was pretty bad which I learned was because it was a pirated copy. Saturday was a hectic day of getting ready for the party. Some friends came over ...

... large rocks. As the water level rose we had to stick to breathing through our noses with our heads tilted a bit trying to avoid hitting our heads on lower rocks. Very little room to move but everyone was really good about checking on everyone and making sure people were breathing well. We eventually got to an open area of absolutely beautiful water and some overhead light coming down. We continued through some high, narrow tunnels where the water only came up to my waist ...
