Historical Traveler Reviews Quinta Pedra dos Bicos Albufeira
the property is very basic, we arrived for a 5 night break on the 29th April 2006 and on arrival the reception was closed, this was at 9pm, we had to ring an out of hours number and wait as the staff member was having a drink with friends!! We were then given a key to the apartment, when we eventually found it the room was damp ,beds, sheets, blankets, sofa bed etc and as it is part residential the person living upstairs liked to play loud music through the night/morning so we had no sleep at all, my 2 year old child was very tired, the apartment had no balcony, terrace or outside seating area just a window. We could not get an alternative apartment as it was the portuguese bank holiday so we booked into the forte da oura apartments which were excellent. Also if you do book the quinta pedra dos bicos and you book bed and breakfast basis the only area to get breakfast is the poolside snack bar as there is no restaurant onsite.I would not rate this property as a 4 star we paid a higher rate thinking it was a decent 4 star accommodation when in actual fact we would have the same standard in a 2 star at a fraction of the price.
Myself and my wife together with our 3 boys (12,10& 8) are just back from a fantastic 2 week stay at the Quinta Pedra dos Bicos apartments. We could not find any fault at all with
the apartment (3 bedroooms) and the beautiful and extremely relaxing pool area. The place
is an absolute gem within easy reach of the beach and the "strip". The kids had a ball.
Can't wait for our next visit.
Great location and a fantastic apartment
If your headed to Albufeira this year and you want to be close to everything but far away enough to not know it, then this is the place for you!
The complex is pretty much brand new and to be honest the setup there is a little strange... The large majority of the apartments (spread accross a number of different blocks) would seem to be either private residential accommadtion or weekend holiday homes, only a small number seem to be in use for holiday rental, dont get me wrong THIS IS IN NO WAY A PROBLEM!
There are two pools which are both accessible by all guests and residents, one of which has a nice little bar with an outdoor decking area.
There did seem to be any other hotel type facilities (apart from the regular and very efficient maid service) but again this was not an issue for me!
Anyway, rather than me waffling on for hours, here are some key points that I witnessed during my stay with my Wife:
1) On arrival the friendly receptionist advised that the room would be ready in 30 minutes and immediatly apologised and gave us vouchers for free drinks in the pool bar (Great service!)
2) The pool bar had a nice selection of snacks and Drinks and the Staff were really friendly and even turned off their background music and turned up the football match that they saw me watching on TV
3) Once in the room we were completly shocked... After only paying a very small amount for a Studio room we had been upgraded to a fantastic two bedroom apartment which slept 7 people!
4) The tastefully decorated rooms had two air conditioning units, a fully equipt kitchen with enough crockery for a small army and a view out of our terrace over the main pool area.
5) In my opinion it has one of the best locations in the area, situated just accross the road from a number of restaurants, around the corner to some more bars and restaurants and about 100meters from a fairly priced supermarket.
6) The walk to the bustling "Strip" is about 5-10 minutes (depending on weather your a stroller or a strider) and thankfully for those looking for a good nights sleep, it is just out of audiable range. The Beach takes about 5-10 minutes to reach also but does involve a walk down a steepish hill which is the case with pretty much most hotels in Albufeira.
To sum up, as you can probably guess from this review, I was very very impressed by these apartments and would give them a personal rating of 8 out of 10 (losing the two points for the lack of on-site facilities)
FYI, for anyone looking to book after reading this review I booked through ---- for what I found to be by far the best price on the net (booked March 2006)
If you need any further info then drop me an email and I will try to get back to you...Happy holidays!
Have just returned from a 5-day break in Albufeira during the October half term and am keen to add to the reviews about the accommodation and location. I, in fact, used the reviews of the Quinta Pedra Dos Bicos to book my trip and have enjoyed the most relaxing break thanks to the honest reviews. You never know quite what to expect when you look into booking a holiday. I think in a way, you always expect the worst! However, on arrival to the apartments my expectations were over-ruled by the stunning apartments. Not only do they look impressive, but are ultra clean, well-equipped (To name a few: a kitchen full of crockery, utensils, fridge freezer; a television; a lovely bathroom with power shower and lots of hot water; daily supply of clean bedding and towels.....) alongside being very spacious, and welcoming.
We stayed in a large apartment which consisted of 1 double bedroom, 1 single bedroom, 1 bathroom and a living room/kitchen which also contained another single bed. As there were only two of us, we spread out and allowed ourselves the luxury of a dressing room (the single bedroom!!!!)
Our balcony looked out over the resort and as well as the apartments, the grounds and pool are well maintained. The pool is admittedly cold, but what better way to cool off on a hot day (It's deep enough to have a good swim to warm up anyway!). Talking of weather, we were fortunate to have 5 hot days in October. A word of warning - it cools off in the evenings! Take jumpers!
I did wonder whether the half term holiday bookings would accelerate but the resort was fairly quiet, there was enough room on the beach for a full 'sand-drawn' court for bat and ball!!!!!! and plenty of restaurants and bars to serve you immediately whether you headed to the Strip or into the old town (slightly more traditional!)
It's often said that 'accommodation is just a base, so it can afford to be basic' but this was more than basic, it was excellent. I have already recommended it to friends and family and would not hesitate to return myself.
Not the worst i have ever seen - but .................
Sorry to rain on everyones parade that has written a glowing review of this place before, but frankly it was nothing special. The apartment we had was ok, it was clean with basic amenities (a kettle would have been nice instead of boiling water in a aluminium jug). A view would have been splendid !. Instead we were just facing an identical 'block' with no aspect at all. 24 hr reception would have been marvelous - something i think a 300 + apartment complex deserves, as it was, we arrived after 9pm and there was a note fixed to the reception door saying we had to go to another hotel over the road to get our keys.
To be fair though, the pool area was lovely and the beach which is down the long wooden staircase was a dream, but as a 'package', i could only rate this place 3 stars tops. Praia d'oura wasnt up to much with those scratchcard wielding timeshare parasites on every corner and English breakfast/ British chippy signs as far as the eye could see.
Most of the flats with the great views/balconies had been bought up privately and i think most of the previous reviews were from people who stayed in those. We booked through expedia and got a 'bog standard' flat.
Portugal itself is still a delight with friendly people, lovely beaches and great weather, even into October. However there were far better value appartments everywhere, i would give these a miss unless booking privately with a guaranteed view.
It wuz klasss
Im just home from quinta pedra dos bicos and we stayed in lote 18 room R. we had 2 balconies and 1 open door balcony thing-hard to explain. Our apartment had 2 bedrooms and we had 6 people sleeping in 2 bedrooms and ther wuz room for more! The pools cud onlyb accessed by key so it wus vey private and we had our own pool. We wer also very close to the beach and the famous strip! This was our best holiday ever and we would go back for def! It was very clean and the complex was massive! It was also far enough away so noise was no problem! There was a main pool but private onez were prefered. We had great views and in every block there were lifts along with staris so cases could be easily taken to you room! Overall the hotel was the top quality! It had very few faults and we would recomend it to anyonee!
Love it all
I just arrived home from Quinta Pedra dos Bicos apartments in Albufeira.
Guys, i must tell you, it was the best apartments i stayed until today. I stayed in Lote 18 - S, and how can i describe to you all what i enjoyed there ?
The apartment was facing the ocean, from one part to the other.
The apartment was facing the all pool area
The apartment was lovely, spacious, well furnished, two balconies overlooking all areas...
If you going there, donīt think twice, book today and youīll see what i canīt describe.
I REALLY LOVE IT ALL
Iīm going to tell all my friends about this AMAZING apartments in Albufeira
We recently stayed at Quinta Pedra dos Biscos. It was wonderful. There was 5 adults and 1 child staying in a 2 bedroom apartment and you could have easily have fitted a few more. The apartment was clean, spacious and comfortable. The apartments are situated very near the beach, which was great, especially when you had a child with you. Everything is just a walking distance away i.e.pubs, restaurants, shops. It was the most relaxing holiday I ever had. Very family orientated where only guests are allowed in the pool area and it is very secure, again essential when you have children with you. Will definitly be booking it again for next year.
Excellent Location, modern apartments
Our stay September 2004. We arrived at the Quinta Pedra dos Bicos late in the evening and it was already dark. First impressions were not good as the apartments do not have a main reception (I believe they are in the process of building one though). However, our apartment was huge, very clean and modern - we were very impressed! We had 2 balconys, one of which went right around the apartment. Because the apartments are on a cliff we had spectacular views of the sea (no other apartments complexes in front of us). The lovely Praia de Oura beach is 5 minutes downhill. The location was very quiet and tranquil which is deceptive as the Quinta Pedra dos Bicos are within 5 minutes walk of the Montechoro strip!! Would definitely go back again.
Quinta Pedra dos Bicos
I've been in love with the algarve for many years but this is the third time that I stayed at Quinta Pedra dos Bicos near Praia da Oura it's a real nice mix because all of the apartments are self catering and lots are privately owned but the lacation is breathtaking because the resort is built at the top of a cliff with direct access to the beach and it's own swimming pools, in the other direction you have the world famous strip 5 minutes away so everything is near enough to walk to but far enough from the noise

For the first time on this trip, we slept in, then enjoyed a leisurely breakfast. As a gift from the hotel, we were given buffet breakfast for each of our three days here. The buffet arrangements are lavish, complete with pastries, fresh and dried fruits, cereals, fresh squeezed juices, a tea bar, mimosas, a charcuterie bar, yogurts, omelette stations, and locally made jams. We discovered yesterday that the resort also has a kids' area called Porto Pirata, ...
After heeding the suggestion of a British-born owner of a gift shop in Praia de Luz, yesterday we headed for the hills, or the Serra de Monchique to be precise in order to find the alternative Portugal. Once off the initial bit of motorway, the road meandered uphill through pine and eucalyptus clad hills before turning in a westerly direction south of Monchique itself. The route along the ridge went through little hamlets with panoramic views down to the Algarve ...
... atmosphere put me in mind of Stonehenge and the summer solstice, not that I have personally been, with everyone peering out to sea as the golden 'orb' gradually dropped over the edge of the sea. When the sun had gone from view at around 9pm, everyone turned and headed for their vehicles, with a long string of tail-lights heading into the distance, but well-worth the drive and the wait. One of this year's highlights ...
Well, we made it to Lagos!
We have sailed over 1200 miles and really enjoyed exploring Portugal.
I have discovered that I like sardines and that I have an allergy to something shell fishy!
I became a 'HB' and am now a'TB'.... An honorary boy because I was the only woman in an all male crew who mucked in and then a true boy because I could pull halyards and sheets like the rest of them! Quite an honour!
... cove beach for a recovering swim and a nap in the sun. We headed to the little bar next door with the hostel crew for bbq dinner and beers. We left with a few take away beers, a quick game of beer pong and we headed down the beach for some late night chats and hit the pillow around 230am. The morning came and it was time for us to say good bye to Lagos and our new friends. Lagos - definitely a favourite so ...
