... here. The conquistadors were not that bright it seems, as they built the ´modern' day Mexico city on a lake. Now I´'m no engineer but even I could have told them that would cause problems down the line. Loads of the buildings are on a massive lean as they sink slowly into the spongy soil. I went up a tower to get a better view of the city, but there wasn´t much to see thanks to all the smog. In the evening it was time to try some Mexican cooking. Once I had explained that I don´t eat ...
Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lizzyletloose... down my face and neck and lighting bolts erupting around us on three sides, than I have in a long while. We could actually see the bolts hitting within the remains of the ancient city, and the interval between flash and boom was getting steadily shorter. We scrambled down and squished back to the car as fast as we could in the pelting rain, and I have never been so happy that cars come with heaters.

The highways were totally flooded, and ...
Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico annoiatissima... the announcements that morning at St. Paul's one of the Music ministers had mentioned that he would be preforming at eight o'clock so we stopped at a restaurant on the corner of the square and heard the prior group entertaining. Melinda and Bob told us that they had been told that the restaurant on the corner was noted for its mole sauce and sopa (soup). Sheila had chicken mole and Bob got the consumme, which was more like a soup stew. The tables were designed for cocktails so it was ...
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico sfotch... and it was an awesome visit and yes we drank wine on the rooftop with the beautiful view at sunset!!. The next day Nikos (roomie) and I were off to the Craft Fair at Instuito Allende , The Art school is housed in a beautiful building and the inside is just as breathtaking..lined around the outside of the courtyard are the many different artisans locally and other communities, for me it was neat to see what types of creativity is expressed I can ...
San Miguel De Allende, Mexico creativejourneyOur next stop took us to San Miguel de Allende in the State of Guanajuato, where we got shortly before dusk and checked in another Lonely Planet recommended hotel. This one though was a real pretty one with a nice garden, parrots whistling "Puerto Rico" and entertaining all guests. The city is full of American retirees, but still is one of the nicest towns we've both ever visited. It has an incredible amount of churches, glorious ones as well as a bit more ...
Mexico City, Mexico sf2paris... were not nearly as smart nor cunning. They replaced the intricate system of canals that the Aztecs built with roads. Lame! Currently Mexico City is sinking at I believe a rate of 5 meters every 20 years or so?? In fact there is a Spanish church that was constructed in the heart of the city that use to have a pendulum pointing to the EXACT center of the city. However, given that Mexico City is SINKING the pendulum is off. But that doesn't stop die hard Catholics from praising God ...
Mexico City, Mexico kwagssd3We have now spent 10 days in our new neighborhood and it is working out well. I had some concerns since it was written up as being "in transition". It certainly is, real estate wise, land is being bought up, (mostly by Canadians and Americans) and being built on. Old houses, or unfinished newer ones are picked up and fixed up. It gives all new meaning to all the fix-up and flip sort of US t.v. shows. Prices are rising along with the ...
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico judyk68... We will drive to Albuquerque, then Sedona, then Salt Lake City, then Spokane. After a short stay in "the can," we head back for Seattle. I feel kind of dumn that we timed the trip so we have to drive across North America in the dead of winter, but what are you gonna do. Thanks for checking in with our blog along the way, it's been a great trip. I recommend anyone who has never been to Mexico to visit the country at least once in their lives, it is a ...
