It really is a shame we already booked our flight to France from Porto. We could have easily stayed an extra week in Portugal, there is so much to see here. But we did pretty good with our 2 days in Porto. It's right on the river and the ocean, and on one side of the river are tons of cute, old tiled homes, that look across to the other side of the bank where all of the old Port ...

Aveiro, Aveiro, Portugal mikeandsuecuffWe drove to Madelana about 8 kilometers from Porto. As we got near Jessica decided that she was no longer going to be our sat nav floozie and left us in the lurch in a narrow cobbled street. A kind passerby volunteered to accompany us out of difficulty but there was no room in the car. Where upon a passing motorist stopped and offered to lead us to the camp site. There followed a journey down twisting cobbled streets some of them two way as he stopped the oncoming ...
Porto, Porto, Portugal mikeandsuecuffAveiro is a sweet little coastal town with great long white beaches for surfing and nice flat rivers for kiting. Jon got out kiting our first day there but unfortunately squeezed way too much Vaseline in his new bindings to really enjoy his ride. He was kiting in storm winds on our smallest kite, so no kiting for me. The surf was insane that day and no one was in the water. It kind ...
Aveiro, Beiras, Portugal sofenjon
The next day we hit the road to Porto which was a substantial drive of about 5-6 hours. Luckily this is the day the weather decided to turn, so the bad weather was endured from the comfort of the car. We arrived late to Porto and checked into our less then elegant hostel. Our meal was no better. We ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal donwen... for a hostel. It looked more like an Ikea show room with free printing, quality linen, and a little bit too nice for a hostel. Good point to wind down I guess and as a result the only exciting thing I did was visit the Port Cellars which it is obviously famous for.

Unfortunately, I was one night too late for St John The Baptist festival ...
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal ddoumani... to me in Finland - I was doing perfectly fine until I hit a very well-traveled road and got stuck). I love social psychology (especially when it works in my favour), and one of the first cars to come by stopped for me. The guy was going only halfway to Leiria, but the most important for me was going somewhere. As we approached his town, though, he told me he was probably going to Leiria shortly after and would pick me up again if he saw me, so I asked him if he ...
Aveiro, Portugal renardPorto was the next stop, home of Port. This is the only region in the world able to produce the grapes in order to produce Port. The difference between the production of Port and Wine, is that the addition of brandy to the grapes stops their fermentation and produces Port! The Douro Valley is the name given to the area which produces the grapes, with very cold temperatures in winter and extremely hot in ...
