Before heading out, we went to the palace dining room for the included buffet breakfast, where Tina ate 2 people portions worth of food. Mons Sanctus

Monsanto was voted in 1938 the "most Portuguese village in Portugal" what ever that means.

We hiked up the hill (758 meters (2486 feet)) to the Monsanto head, Latin as Mons Sanctus, the Holy Mountain.


We took 2 hours to hike to the castle high above town ...

... the road at Santa Comba Dao train station - at this point I started to recognise the area. After Santa Comba Dao I headed west across two bridges over the lakes of the dao and down into Mortagua town. I called into my favourite cafe in the high street and had burger and chips and called Karis and mum and warned them of my arrival. ... do dao which is a 3 meter wide Tarmac path on an old railway line .fortunately they removed the sleepers and track .and as luck would have it ,it was down hill all the way .Rod and mum found a great camping spot for me but unfortunately this time it was under water as they have damned the river down stream ,so I found a few trees ...

... are **** and don't know how to drive safely .they are not considerate to cyclist or other road users . A lorry came round the bend and the driver looked straight at me smiled and moved over but the **nk*r who was touching his bumper couldn't see me neither could the wa**er that was touching his bumper .the first car missed me but the second car clipped my pannier .i was stood between the two panniers so It was extremely close to taking me out ! ...
