      ... are all there and kept in tact, just as they were centuries ago. Incredible. It's definitely worth a visit.

      Below the fort, closer to the water is one of the best playgrounds I have ever seen. They even had a zip line! Time did not allow us to go play, but I pray Joe and I have children next time we come. I...I mean they (!) will love playing there!

      ... bases. Eric was excited to see a C5 airplane on the USAF base runway when we left and Portugese pumas (something aeronautical not wildlife!). It was also a stopover for the S40 Sikorsky flying boats run by PanAm in the 30s.

      So even if there isn't much to see on a volcanic island peopled by charming, relaxed, multilingual islanders in the middle of the Atlantic, it is there, it always has been and always will be.

      ... continue along the road I was parked on since, according to my GPS, it would eventually take me back to where I needed to be. As I turned the first corner, the headlights caught two dark figures on the side of the road. I stopped. As I looked further down the road, I saw another BIG black figure crossing the road. They could have been cows . . . but they could have also been bulls. Ricky did not really care to find out! I put the car in reverse and ...

      ... have a look inside until today. It is actually no longer a school. It is now used as the headquarters for the local Scout troop.

      Later in the evening, it was back to Grota do Medo for the second last day of festivities there. Each night, a specific food was prepared and provided (free) to all who attended. Tonight was "Hot Dog" night! You had to be there!

      There were also bouncy castles and pony rides for the kids . . . all for free! I love how these people party ...

      What a nice sleep!

      I was really tired . . . and I slept like a rock! ("rocks don't sleep," says uncle Manny in his comical, sarcastic, matter-of-fact way!)
