Ibo was a major slave trading port in the 18th century, occupied first by the Arabs traders and then then the Portuguese. It is now made of ruined colonial buildings and streets with pavements, while the surrounding houses are made of makuti - straws, and mud...
It is one of the main islands of the beautiful Quirimbas ...
... br>And communication in broken portuguese was... interesting.
I then decided it was enough hard experience, and treated myself in a "normal" backpacker, in a "clean" dorm...and took the Advanced Diving level in a local Diving School. One day I swam with a whale and its calf... magic!
Would it not have been for a few problems on the beach ...
Not a great accomodation, clean and enough as all the activities are turned on outdoor : walking or driving safaris. Not a lot of animals to see, but a very beautifull and amazing landscape.
And here it's adventure first

... of the bus to ourselves for the whole 7 hour ride. We stayed at Wimbi Sun Hotel, just across the street from the beach. We had pretty nice weather, and we would eat at restaurants on the beach and stay there all day. We also go into the habit of crashing the really expensive hotel on the beach, especially ...
Pemba, Mozambique kytravels... minutes down the road I realized I had my license but had forgotten my passport, so we turned around, back across the bridge, back to Jorge's place, picked up the passport, and back on the road to Nampula. As we headed out a second time I jokingly asked Kyle if he had everything he needed, because we weren't going to go back again. Fifteen minutes later, around the same spot where we had turned around, Kyle mentioned that he had left his license back on the island. I was certain ...
Ibo, Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique kcguntherOns het Mosambiek by Milange ingekom.

Pemba, Mozambique seangreifNaçala to Pemba 27th January 2007 I set my alarm for 04:00 as I had to get the 05:00 Grupo Mecula bus to Pemba. There was only one bus and I was told it always left on time and never stopped on the way. I was adamant that this was the bus, so I packed up my tent, throwing in wet laundry, sand and bugs, made one big parcel out of everything and threw it on my back, all in the dark. It took half an hour to walk the 2km to the main road from Fim du Mundo, and I ...
Pemba, Mozambique dcm7am start and Boss who had stayed in a separate hotel due to the number of rooms available came to pick me up in the taxi. I let him do the haggling to get the transport to the border and he showed no mercy. I think the driver liked him though as he came to join us for our chai, bread and eggs at breakfast. We met a sound father and son from Zanzibar who would be our partners in crime for the day. The farther was 77 and I'd never have guessed ...
Mocimboa de Praia, Mozambique jonclark2000Flo invited Susana and I to stay with him (outside his house?) on Ibo. We set up camp on the stoep and promptly became a local attraction. After a couple of weeks of doing very little but wander the historic ruins on Ibo we discovered that Flo had all the dive equipment you could want inside the house just in time for us to leave ...
