Murder Scene! AND Staff Parties Galore

... not knowing a soul because we are still brand new to Wellington, but we definitely met some interesting and fun people that work within the Trinity Company or it's bars and restaurants. We were quite surprised and happy to be put on the guest list for this party (it really felt like an exclusive party) especially because it made our whole night free of charge. We also danced the night away with a live band. So fun!

North Island runs out

... up as we descended back into Napier and took the walking tour round the central business district (as they call downtown) to look at the Art Deco buildings. As I said yesterday, Napier was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1931, and many of the buildings were rebuilt in the Art Deco style. Somehow they have survived and remain to this day. With pedestrianised streets it makes for a very elegant town centre.

But we had to get moving again - a lot of clicks to cover today and ...

Skydive, Milford Sound, Glaciers and The West

... two hours away and they would pick us up then. Ahhh!! We then upgraded to a 12,000 ft Skydive to get a longer freefall and see more of the scenery... No time to sleep on it and worry but when I got there I was ******** myself. We had to go seperately in a plane that was no more than 6ft long with only a pilot seat and falling apart inside lol, Shira was more scared of the plane than the jump, but i'll leave that story there because when we get back you can all watch the DVD we ...

In Preparation for the Weekend. Yay!

... can't think of anything...

The weather today, which has turned excessively windy and somewhat rainy, has inhibited me from doing much outside. And so my secondary activity for the day was sitting on the couch, watching all the series of a Brit-com called Black Books. This is pretty much what I did yesterday, too, except I did manage to get outside and go on a bit of a hike up to Mt. Kaukau. I've had several unfriendly dreams ...

North Island no more

... stopping first at Kawakawa to look at the public toilets. Weird - no not me, them. They were designed by Friedrich Hundertwasser, an Austrian artist who had live in this part of NZ for the last 20 or so years of his life, and as I had I had seen much of his quirky work before in Vienna I was keen to see what he had done here. And spookily, the lady running the nearby gift shop was originally from Coatbridge - now that's weird. The coastal towns in the Bay of Islands ...

... year 12's ( I think) and included several adults and the rest very nicely mannered teenagers, some who had ridden alot and some who were first timers! This ride is not one for the faint hearted, it can be ridden quite fast and involves alot of up and down steep terrain. Gail said therewas evidence of wild pigs in the area so we held our breath, hoping we wouldnt come across any as Pigs and horses dont mix, they are ...

Wellington and Te Papa Museum - great stuff

Well, a belated Happy Easter to everyone reading. And where have we been the past week, you may ask?! We left Napier last Friday, Good Friday that was, and drove the 4 hours or so to Wellington, arriving early afternoon at the YHA hostel. Checked in, got our room and then left to start checking out the town. It being a bank holiday weekend everything was closed but we did stroll the promenade and ended up in the shopping / bar area (not far from the hostel), where we ...

Day 47 - Wellington

... mainly American acts with the exception of the last comedienne who was a Kiwi woman who kept glancing down at the notes she'd written on the back of her hand as prompts. A lot of the Kiwi gags where hard to follow as they were local humour, but we still managed to get some of it. After the comedy night we went to a lcal bar and played pool for a bit. We didn't have have a really late night as we had a lot to get sorted for the trip tomorrow.

Wellington: Lower Hutt
