... up close view of the main attraction - FIREWALKING.

After the men walked on extremely hot rocks for a while, the next attraction featured a coconut splitting competition between two young tribal men. To make the contest more interesting they decided to play for a prize...ME. Whoever split their pile of coconuts the fastest would win me as their bride. After the contest ...
Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji tlbuster... that day and they were pretty interesting: one about the pacific islands and climate change, one about vanua (a fijian term), and another about fijian pre-history all lectured by PhD's. After lunch me and a girl in my group named Ellen walked around the campus and looked at wood art and some guys sang for us at the music and performing arts centre.

Thursday night:
We got home from school and Atu and Orisi had to go into town to get some spices for curry that night so we ...
Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji ajmueller4... finally when we were parting and I offerred to pay him back for the pee he asked for $10 Fijian dollars.....are, the pay off.

Suva was not our favourite place. Whilst the Fijians were warm and friendly we found the Indian traders overbaring and quite rude. Back on the ship that night the general concensus was that Suva, the town could easily be passed over.
Suva, Central, Fiji philandkatrina... could hit us this week. So far so good. It all seems a bit distant here in Suva, however when you see photos and talk to some of the people affected, with flooding 3 - 4 feet high a lot of people have lost all that they own. The major roads arent open yet, the majority of bridges have washed away and so far 5 people have died. They are already saying that it could take up to 2 months to recover.
Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji fiji-travellers... we should add), or trivia about politics, music or films. We've spent quite a few evenings enjoying their company over a glass of wine (not to mention the great prawn dinner cooked by Janet one evening - see pic). All in all, these were our adventures in Fiji. We've enjoyed the scenery, the swimming and meeting the locals very much and we would definitely recommend Fiji and the Beachouse as your next holiday destination. Even though from time to time we were ...
Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji gapostol... was amazingly clear. We hadn't realised the snorkelling was so good until after we'd done some kayaking. Kayaking there was difficult, the wind was blowing me round in circles and the tide was low. We thought we were kayaking over dead coral but it turned out there's lots of fish around there. ****!! We had a go at fishing but had no success in catching any fish. Gutted! Meals were included with the accomodation cos there ...
Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji lisalegslimThis weekend we had the Coke Light games which are the biggest school athletics event in the world (or so they tell me). It started off approx 6 weeks ago with every school competing in their zone heats and finals to qualify for the games. There are over 100,000 kids who compete and it all gets down to the Coke games last weekend. Throw in a torch relay which visits the majority of schools over a 3 week period and ends with a Police escorted run from the Coke office to the ...
Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji fiji-travellersSo I arrive in Nadi Fiji. This tiny airport, and I knew I was not in the states anymore. Just a different world that I had never seen. A lot of people said it reminded them of Mexico. I booked a hostel after Nate had been fussing at me for weeks to do so and they were going to pick me up and take me to the place. I find after I leave customs this lady with a big smile holding a piece of paper with my name on it. She asked me if I had any plans while I ...
Mana Island, Fiji doom_da_da... house matters and generally be their for them and running everything in country. My first group of volunteers was after a few weeks of being in Fiji. I was in charge of 10 volunteers half were girls and half boys. The volunteers were doing a mixture of rugby, hockey and netball coaching but all were good people and easy to get on with. The volunteers I was in charge all of were all sports coaches which was perfect for me as I got on very well with them all. We had a ...
