My Last Assignment Ever!!!

... level, develop and encourage long-term policies that safeguard the Arctic environment, and seek full and active partnership in the political, economic and social development of circumpolar regions (Inuit). Reality The exact cause of global warming is up for debate, and most likely always will be. There are lots of pointing fingers as to who is to blame. However, the real problem is that it ...

Flat Life and a New Semester

... our flat; whether it be my flatmates (Mikey, Andrew, Kate and Sam), the neighbors in flat 3 (5 boys who might as well just live in our flat, with the amount of time they spend here), or my girls (Brisha and Cassandra, two American friends who live just on the other side of the fence).... or miscellaneous friends, or friends of friends. So I basically live in a very lively and exciting place. Much different than living in the halls. I would not recommend to ANYONE ...

Visit to the Mackay's in Palmerston North

I set out from wellington in the general direction of north. On the way I decide to pay a visit to Graeme Mackay, a teacher that I met while walking the Queen Charlotte trek and he invited me to his house. While in there house we drove to see the wind farm and enjoy dinner with friends. The next day I greet them farewell and set up on the road again on the way north.

Racehorses and noisy cats

... all day, firstly in the greenhouse and then the driveway (removing weeds from the drive and pulling out thistles). Apart from a lunch break we worked until 3pm. We actually left the house today! We were lent the car and took it down to a local beach, where they sometimes ride the horses, where Anne was accosted by a seagull! It was a really pretty beach, very vast, and we were happily walking along when a juvenile seagull (huge one ...

Kia Ora!

Hello! Or, as the Kiwis say; Kia Ora! I am finally able to get the time to sit down and post a new blog! Ever since I arrived down under I have been busy busy... always on the go it seems. So, I will start from the beginning.... The few days before my departure from SFO, I had somehow gotten a cold, and the night before I left, woke up in the middle of the night with a nasty fever. So what did I do? I picked up my cell phone and called the house phone for mom of ...

Catching Up With Friends in Palmerston North

... meeting the whole family. PN is a lovely area and we both enjoyed walking around the centre of town. The area also has a huge wind farm which was amazng to see, and you can get up so close to them and feel their immense power. It's great meeting up with friends, but always a shame that we have to lave and say our goodbyes. A big thank you to the McKinlay and Haslam family

A long weekend in Palmerston North

... 4am to watch the England v USA rugby - It's going to kill us all these ridiculously early times! It wasn't a very exciting game, which was evidenced by both me and Jill dozing off throughout the game. Back to bed we went until a more reasonable time of 10am. Sunday afternoon, we went to watch the local rugby team Manawatu Turbos play against Otago. This is the club that Paul works for - he coaches the Academy side ...

In a little town called National Park

... is a story called Alex goes missing. At last moment an Austrain guy called Alex decided to join us. Half way through our hike, Abi and Stef and I decide to go back. It was nearly 2pm, we were no where nearer the top, the weather was closing in and the lifts close at 4pm. Alex decides to go on against our advice. So Stef, Abi and I sit in the cafe near the chair lifts hoping that we will come back on time. Many cups of tea later and we are told to ...

New Zealand - Central North Island

... way of any of the destinations we were planning on visiting; being fairly equidistant from Taupo, Rotorua and Auckland. We opted to use the rainy weather to our advantage and went to Waitomo in between Taupo and Rotorua. It seemed that we would get wet in Waitomo regardless of the weather, whereas Rotorua's attractions are mainly outside and would benefit from a fine day. We began our blackwater rafting adventure by donning some rather fetching rubber outfits, namely a ...
