Sunny Newcastle

... we went up, turned out to be a gig by Paul Dempsey, who is the lead singer of Something for Kate, this was his solo project, and it was great. Ive heard many a song of his on Triple J and it was awesome to hear him live, and for free. We then proceeded to the local night club which was pretty boring with **** music so Kamil and myself bailed on Sam who had hooked in with a lady. He made it back to the hostel a bit after 6am.
The following day, with 3 hours sleep, Kamil and myself went ...

... Reserve. It is not very clear how to get there from the train so we stopped in a residential area with the map out looking at it blankly and an extremely nice older aussie couple came out, invited us up for lemonade and biscuits and drove us to the entrance. She was paying it forward; her son travelled overseas and people helped him out heaps. The reserve was very nice, not ...

... where we parked, surfed, and spent last night). They had roo's and wallabies that you could pet and feed and a wombat. I never really had seen a wombat before and that thing has ************ his back side that you can knock on like a door. I guess its a defense mechanism. We also pet some koalas. Good times. Then we found a surf shop that used boards and picked up a cheap one ...

Day 1 Newcastle

... for it. Once checked in we were able to rest, unpack, and clean ourselves up before we headed to the free pub dinner at The Brewery with a bunch of other people from the hostel as well as another close by hostel. When 5:30 pm came around I think the whole hostel was there ready to go and get a free pub meal. While we were waiting Brad wanted me to talk to some people who we thought were American, but ...

One Year on the Road

... I almost have enough money for a car. Next fortnight, really! I've also picked up a cheap laptop for about 500 bucks. Good timing on that, because the company just started blocking websites so I'm going to have to find another way to send and receive emails. I'm looking forwards to getting a car so I can do some travelling on the weekends. I was actually planning on going to Sydney this weekend, but the rain ruined it for me. I've started to play ...

... to find that instead of a small "dune buggy" we were loaded into a 4WD bus which took us out to one of the various sand dunes for sandboarding. The bus left us off in the hot sun to go and get another group. Thankfully there was a cool breeze and the sand was cool, thanks to recent rains. A few in our group were adventurous enough to climb the dune with a sand board and slide down, some with more success than others. They reported ...

Goodbye Vera - we'll miss you.....

... our hire car up the next day! Ok we were very shook up but realised how lucky we were to come out of the accident relatively unscathed - the germans wife fractured her pelvis and had to spend 6 weeks in hospital. Good old Vera!!! We're also very grateful to the Police, ambulance men and car garage people who really looked after us. When something like this happens, it makes you realise how far away from home you really are..... Vic x

... the Stockton sand dunes. The sand dunes here stretch for roughly 18km and are 2km wide, right next to the ocean. This was amazing ! Picture this...Everywhere you look, there is sand dunes, with your throttle at your thumb's side and a quadbike capable of a top speed of approx 70 km/hour .... Yes......Heaven ! After our safety induction, we were let loose on the dunes. The only things we had to really remember was the location of our foot brake and to try and keep to the tracks that the ...

The Port Stephens Experience

... So I guess it was one of the most miserable drives ever. I imagine Port Stephens looks lovely in the sunshine. Under grey cloud, it didn't look much. We had lunch at the D'Albora Marina, and felt very sorry for ourselves. We thought of staying the night there, as we had planned, but when Nature is against you, the best thing you can do is go back to the City, so we actually drove back on ourselves towards Newcastle. According ...
