And a Ho Hum to you too

... but the windows are dirty. It always amazes me that they haven’t got a system for keeping the windows clean when they are adv**tising and selling the view. They also push the “skywalk”. For just an additional $40, you can lock up all your possessions, including your cam**a, dress up in a blue suit with harness, and walk outside onto a platform which has a glass floor. While I love to do stuff like ...

... Jokin. Apparently the government has arranged some lectures for the locals to teach them what the tourists want, but the taxi-drivers have refused to go. It shows!
Princess has its own tours here, but the locals are trying to earn some money as well. They are trying hard, but are not terribly well-organised, and some of their helpers let them down. They look like they ...

If anyone has done the working holiday thing in either Canada or Ireland please give me a shout!

It's a hard knock life

... by about 30 rain jackets. The day also proved extremely lucrative as we were paid by the poncho.

However, since then I have discovered just how hard it is to find work in the city. It's just so difficult to work your way through the mine-field of things you need to do. Today I spent the whole day opening a bank account and setting up an Australian mobile phone. It reminds me of learning shorthand, all the information is there in ...

Sydney

My first two weeks abroad were divided among the many diversions that the greater Sydney area has to offer. I've spent a good deal of time both downtown and at the beach, and found that either one is easy to get used to.

Sydney is a very attractive city, usually coming out high on polling of best places to live and happiest people. The opera house is the most well known and striking feature of the skyline. Contrary to popular belief, the design is not meant ...

Sydney with Sue and Mike, April 1-9, 2009

On April 1 we left Ted and Vicki Cain's home on the Central Coast. The weather was windy and rainy so we decided to take the train to Sydney. We were met at Strathfield station by Sue. We last saw Sue when she came to visit us in Ottawa two years ago and it was 12 years ago that we last saw Mike in Montreal. They welcomed us into their home and for the next eight days we ...

... rich, old men and their young, whipper snapper rent boys; a tom hanks film; playing pool, during which time i cut my leg on the table leaving a giant scar; reading magazines and still listening out for mr crazy, while sitting on the loo! bedtime was not great and i was seriously worried about waking up to find myself hanging from a hook, but thankfully we made it through the night and discovered that actually the owners had been back on their home turf from as early as 9pm the ...

Sydney: Hanging Out With Brad and Esth Down Under

... two days of drinking, sun and activities, I had a little rest (as Esther would say)... by falling onto the bathroom floor. Alas, two minutes later, I arose and all was good. It was a wonderful experience at the house. Hanging out with Brad and Esther and their friends was tons of fun and I was glad to see them in their home element and share in the birthday festivities. Spending more time with Sarah and Mary was great ...

more groceries and mini pies for desert, then headed in for the night
to make a pasta dinner. Amazingly, as we sat down to eat, Lu turned on
the music channel and of course Men At Work's, "We Come From a Land
Down Under" came on... perfect.
