Can't believe it is already day 10 of our vacation! Three days until we leave Bendigo for our camping trip, and there is still a lot of work to do on Paddy's house. Today I painted more of the new baseboards, and Paul and Paddy worked on repairing the furnace, installing baseboards and building a new linen closet. All of the baseboards and door trims have been installed in ...
Bendigo, Victoria, Australia shutrbugBecause Bendigo was a gold rush destination in the 1800's, there was a large influx of Cantonese Chinese Immigrants into the area. They had no civil rights, were allowed to search for gold only where Europeans had already worked the fields and taken the easy pickings, and they were taxed every time they turned around. But they came, they made their livings and sent word home to other Chinese men who eventually turned up in Bendigo. Some of ...
Bendigo, Victoria, Australia shutrbug... we have seen in Europe. The feeling was slightly less ornate than most cathedrals we have visited and had beautiful cofffered ceilings. The double pipe organ was being played by a young man during our visit and we enjoyed the thundering hymns he played. The Australian twist was the altar cloth which had embroydered on it the admonishment "STAY AWAKE!"
Another surprise was when we saw the door to the Town Hall open and poked our ...
Well ok .. we drove here today but i didn't actually do anything in Bendigo until tomorrow ... but i will put it all in the blog anyway ...
So ... we drove into Bendigo and visited a Gold Mine ... cool ... there was gold in the walls .. and it wasn't ...
Up with the birds again today, weather is cool and cloudy with sunbreaks.
Painted the walls for a couple of hours, then Paul and I visited Bendigo Pottery. This pottery uses a white clay found a couple of hours drive from Bendgo. We watched a Potter create a quiche pan and poked around the original ...
Ok, I've been up for 42 hours - napped only about 3 hours on the plane - so poor grammar and punctuation errors are legally allowed.
Thanksgiving Day was rainy and cool - pretty typical for Washington. We finished up the last of the items on our To Do list, reheated leftovers from our family Thanksgiving dinner last weekend and finished packing. Good omen - the cab driver arrived ...
... inspirational moments of my life happened over a very short period of time. Moments like looking in my daughters eyes just moments after she was born. Discoveries of the body through KI Aikido (the unbendable arm) or Drama exercises. Tricks of the voice like imagine shouting behind you instead of in front of you increases your projection humungously and saves the throat from being ripped apart. Standing at the top of the Grand Canyon...I could go on, but really mt ...
Bendigo, Australia sammmiles... but fun. Instead of one big shopping area like we have they will have narrow little passage ways leading you to specific stores. Before you know it you're outside on the street, or on the second story of a store you don't remember walking into. Makes shopping exciting and mysterious haha. The volunteer house feels like the U.N. I of course represent America, then we have three people from England (Jessica, Amy, and Pete), one guy from France (Francois!), and two girls from ...
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia icn06... some spare rubber in the boot of the car and in the dark I fashioned out a new seal with a knife. Soaked it in oil and resealted the cover. No problems getting up the hill after that, and I was underway. It got to about 3 in the morning and I decided to stop right before boarder town to catch some sleep. When I woke up I contuined on only to have a full blowout of the back left tire. This was an instresting as I was never able to change a fully flat tire ...
Bendigo, Australia paulcameron... rate of only %13 and the cheap accommodation, I could see that this pears thing would be pretty lucrative. One thing that struck me by surprise was the social atmosphere of our farm. I hadn't expected there to be so many people on the farm, and I definately didn't think they'd all be backpackers. We had Sundays off and headed into town almost every week on some seriously mad nights out in Shepparton. About 15-20 of us generally hitchhiked into town ...
