... most cities in the world but is a topic that many choose to avoid. Fred’s tours showed us the result of a community striving to turn around conditions of homelessness by taking efforts to work with those living on the streets.

We went by a building where the homeless can store whatever belongings they have during the day in order to be more active and earn a living. We visited a building where showers and basic hygienic materials are available. Finally, we stopped at ...

Pam's Visit: City #1 Day 2

We got up at a decent hour and went to the city to walk around some more. The Christmas market opened at 12pm so we venture back over to that area to check them out. It was amazing!! It is basically a large square that is filled with small booths in the style of old half-timber German houses selling good quality fine arts and crafts. Wood carvings ...

Pam's Visit: City #1 Hamburg

... walk from the S-bahn station. It was very nice and clean. We had 4 other roommates who were quiet. I had to do my best to keep Pam moving and awake so that she would go to sleep at a normal time and get on Germany time as fast as possible, but she was like a zombie! Unfortunately it was Sunday and not many stores are open. We went to the harbor first to see the ships and stuff. It was raining and basically ...

Berlin Caught My Attention...

... city where talking on a subway seems all but illegal. That's where Up With People comes in. We make the subway rides very entertaining. We sing and laugh and talk so that wherever you are on the subway, you are sure to hear us.

We're also very good at sleeping (we sleep in anything that moves) and waking up at the exact time that we need to in order to get off the subway at the correct stop.

Here are some clips of us ...

I Haven't Fallen Off the Face of the Earth...

... my camera!

This blog will be short because I'm exhausted. We're baking Christmas cookies tomorrow and then going out to see Hamburg. Thus, I must go to bed!

I hope you all are well :) I'll write a long blog tomorrow about Berlin and my first night in Hamburg. Get ready for lots of pictures!

Love to all,
Megan

... wanted to leave earlier) and we all agreed (it was a much longer walk to the train station than to Parkhaus). We got to the train station, struggled through getting our tickets (we wanted to be able to just buy one ticket for both the ride to Hamburg and for the return trip, but the tickets end at 3:00 and we wouldn't be coming back until after that. So we ended up buying a 35 and 28 Euro ticket for the eight of us due to another misunderstanding ...

Hamburg

We began the day with a bus tour around Hamburg. Our tour guide was a very pretentious woman who, in her best affected British accent, tried to impress upon us the various places in Hamburg (such as Harvestehude and Blankenesee) where one lives, "if one has the money." Apparently Hamburg is home to more millionaires than any other city in Germany. Afterward, we had a fascinating tour of the DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron ...

... were on (Romo, with the little diagonal lines through the O's). The water was freezing when I touched it, but the sunset was beautiful and made up for the brisk breeze. The beach was a large expanse of nothingness and very, very flat. I can see why the flood fields we saw on the way there were necessary. We played around on the beach and the sand dunes far back from the water and then watched the sunset. The drive back was quite dark, but I did get a slightly blurry picture ...

Where's The Beef In This Hamburg...er

... being out we saw the smallest car I had ever seen. I could have sworn it was just a fancy golf cart. Later we learned it was just a Smart Car, but before they made it to America years later I was amazed by it. It was a rainy day so we didn't spend too much time out side but instead learned a lot about German television, which can be summed up as confusing. Next day we woke up and headed to the station to catch the train to Copenhagen.
