We managed to escape Fort Worth/Dallas by 11 this morning, but had to drive many miles to shake free of the tentacles of the metroplex. As we drove east, Texas became pretty again, the way I remembered from our trip in 2007, when we drove from Fort Worth to the Hill Country. ... unsuccessful in locating any of the diamonds. They say there are plenty out there, and some good size ones have been found this year, as recently as 2009 a 5.75 carat stone was found here. We just were not lucky today. Our campsite tonight is very nice, all the roads and the sites are asphalt and have picnic tables, fire rings and each site includes a designated spot for a tent. This is a very beautiful setting.
