... bread rolls. And a spritz. (Made with prosseco (sparkling wine) Apple juice and water). Bellissimo! What a magical spot to have lunch, out on the balcony. Lake and mountain views. Beautiful! After lunch I walk through the hotel's gardens. Beautiful again! Back to Varenna for a spot of last minute shopping (bought some prints of the area) and a huge gelato. Back to my room to pack up. Scraps for dinner ...

They ask me to sit up in the chair for a few minutes, to check the local hasn’t killed off any essential brain-cells I guess, ask me if I’d like the tooth (which I did) and then I’m escorted off back upstairs.

I’m given a post-operative precautions note, I guess as it’s in Italian, and then have to hand over €172 for the privilege. If you forget the tooth in my hand, it made the post-operative paper seem a bit ...

    Rome to Varenna (via Milan)

... That seems a bit odd. Not sure where the sand would come from. Probably just my eyes. We pass through lots of little villages which are very agricultural. It's so much more satisfying going by train than flying. It's not a cheap way to travel though. A Eurail pass would be the way to go if you're moving around a lot. The trains in Italy have been pretty good actually. I'm a little surprised. Although they're not suitcase friendly. They're not flat ...

Weather not so flash in Torno today so caught the train in to Milan. First day out in a big Italian city this trip. Stopped for our morning coffee then walked around the Castello Sforzesco & through the park to the Arco Della Pace (Arch of Peace). Were happy with our decision to wear jeans till the sun came out unexpectedly & things got a little moist! So decided to hide in the Castello museum for a couple of hours. Pretty easy to do ...

    Swiss rail to St Moritz

... as well as more rugged looking tracks, maybe for mountain biking. Apparently Saint Moritz is sunny 322 days of the year! We jumped in a taxi from the rail station - a Mercedes 4-wheel drive no less - and got him to drop us at the top of town. That took only a few minutes and cost €16, but worth it up the hill! There are four languages spoken here, including English which made it pretty easy. Window shopping was the extent of our walk, as all the retail ...
