Enköping- Goodbye Gotland

... and it arrive back in Stockholm at the right time then we could catch a train that would go right to our next destination. If we missed it, it would take us about twice as long and cost much more to get there. Luckily, we managed to get on the first bus and were just going to have to keep our fingers crossed. After a scary ride back to Stockholm (our bus driver almost hit a guy cycling about four times on the way back, the ...

A day on the lake, Swedish style

... we settle in on the island where there are many picnic groups and everyone seems to have a cooler, a beer in hand and a smile on their face! Summer seems great here!!! There is a diving board and go for a refreshing swim . The ciders creep up on me quickly as they are 7% alcohol content and I feel good by the time a group of her guy friends come to the island to pick us up in their boat. We go for a ride and ...

Vasteras - the real swedish experience!

... saving. Good news is that I continue to know nothing about wine so the "red" wine I had purchased didn't stain because it turned out to be "white"! We walk back to her flat through the town park where at least half of the city must be hanging out. Malin is very nice and after a brief pit stop at her flat, we hit the bars (which are within 5 minutes walking distance), and which I later realized would be a frequent event ...

Västerås

Wanting to see more of Sweden, we planned a few days driving north of Stockholm, however the car decided to have a broken timebelt which we only fixed in the nick of time so we ended up with one day to drive. We decided to head for Västerås to see some viking stone ship settings. The weather wasn't great but it was very interesting and we managed to fit in a couple of caches. (www.geocaching.com)

... The 25 year old daughter has taken over managing the estate has is seeing to the redoing of the gardens and planting many trees. Yes Josh, 25yrs old Swedish and lives in a castle on a lake. Further along the drive we were along a ridge of pebbles and stone which had been laid down by a glacier. Rules of Engagement (with Swedish Subtitles)

... network of border posts existed around the continent which disrupted traffic and trade--causing delays and costs to both businesses and visitors. Then came the 1985 Schengen Agreement which is an agreement among European states (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden,) that allows for the abolition of systematic border controls between the participating countries ...

The Good News and The Bad News

... its all quite complicated and at the moment I´m a bit like a deer in the head lights trying to figure out which move is least likely to turn me into Euroad-kill. On the bright side, anyway you look at it, life as a fugitive or deportation, this is bound to be an adventure. I leave you with this thought, thunk by G.K. Cherston: "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered." Love always your wayward daughter, Sandra

The Fugitive

... Schengen countries; Sandra has stayed 123 days...and counting) But Schengen laws are made by Europeans and carried out by Europeans and Europeans are imperfect. Sandra Morrow is innocent! .....well not exactly... Guilty!... if you want to get technical. (Penalties include: hefty fines, reentry denial, deportation, the scorn of the french and a black mark as a 'persona non grata' barred from all Schengen countries for up to 7 years) What ...

Call of the moose

... to do both despite the weather - plenty of natural woodlands around, peace and quiet and a big dog to pick up the moose scent (and possibly scare them away). Just so you know, I'm camped up in the little hut beside the main house in the photo above left, and of course I should introduce Olof (the one with the beer) and Balder (the one ...

coffee anyone?

Today, April 27, Madelen had arranged for a massage for me at 1 pm so she hurried home and took a long lunch to take me to the massage and to take Marvin to get some Swedish kronas so we could start spending money in Sweden!!! Mona, Madelen's mother, took us to a very old mill that has been turned into a restaurant. We had coffee (yes, I actually drank coffee, probably for the first time in 30 years. I had milk ...
