Rotorua -> Waitomo Caves -> Auckland

As promised, we dropped by McDonald's for breakfast. If there's enough time, you can choose to visit Agrodome Sheep Show. We didn't and drove straight for 2.5 hrs/ 166 km to reach Waitomo Caves. It's unique underground limestone formations stand as one of New Zealand's most inspiring natural wonders and a must-see destination. We opted for "Two Cave Combo - Glowworm and Aranui Caves". As the next show is to start at 1.30pm, we sat down for Bread/Pie lunch. We explored Aranui Cave first. It is...

Exploring Auckland

It was a great sunny morning, fine weather, Housen brought us to Western Springs Park. It's a spacious park and loads of goose. Feeding them with bread is a common sight and the children had great fear/fun feeding them. Next stop is to Winter Garden/Tropical/Fernery. Plants are distinctly classified under these 3 catagory and it was an amazing journey through the foliage, most of which we had never seen before. Parnell Festival of Roses had just ended a week ago. Nevertheless, many are still ...

Holidays and weekends away

... blue runs! Vaguely more under control nowadays but still seem capable of falling over, even when just standing still! The apres ski is great fun too, especially as it's usually a big group of us that go. Our last trip was quite eventful, as there was a complete whiteout and you could see literally nothing. Karla fell and banged her head, causing her to be stretchered off the mountain, Laura skiied off the edge of the run and I got vertigo and had to ...

A north and south island that are New Zealand

... my age down a mountain road into Queenstown. Spent the day hanging around town there, and then relaxing in a café that night. I hiked around the area the next days and took in the views. Met up with a couple from Chicago, that were both very familiar with Reno, and had been there. Went out to the acclaimed Fergburger in Queenstown, and yes, it was amazing! It's own thing and flavor, but up there with In-N-Out and Awful Awful. Yum! Had a great ...

NZ-The final part of our NZ adventure

... phone to ring with an offer for the car. Rod and Fi did continue to look after us though, keeping us occupied with whole bunch of activities. Rod had his birthday bbq, which they invited us to and Fiona took us on a drive to a bunch of very swanky suburbs/beaches. On another day, they took us on a boat trip around the islands off Auckland, which was fab. The sea wasn't the calmest, but the scenery was great and I can confirm that Rod's boat (The cleverly named Prawn Star) is flipping quick ...

Lovely to see you all anyway, and wonderful just to hang out in the best country on earth. Of course I totally biased.

Auckland...the most blah city in the World?

... own or something) so I'm trying to kill 16 hours in Auckland. I've already taken the free city bus tour (the highlight probably being when I saw a pub called the Edinburgh Castle), seen the harbour front and been up the sky tower. I might try go to the cinema tonight before I have to go back to the airport but we'll see. Can't wait to get to Australia!!
