Grand Canyon

Happy Fourth of July! We searched all over the Grand Canyon to bring you the one image that we felt best represented the spirit of America on this great celebration of our Nation's Independence. James is going to share his thoughts on today's discovery that has been cited as one of the seven natural wonders of the world since he's viewing the sight with fresh eyes. Mine our clouded ...

Awesome hotel!

Clean and very close to the Grand Canyon. Great continental breakfast too! Thanks for a great night!

Great Value, Good Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
This motel is about as close to the South Rim Grand Canyon National

Park as you can get without actually staying in one of the park lodges.

This is actually in Tussion (SP?) basically a tourist based wide place

in the road, but there are a lot of decent places to eat, buy gas and

picnic supplies. What can you really say about Holiday Inn, decent,

clean, quiet room at a reasonable price. This one does include a simple

basic breakfast in the room rate.

LOVE

I loved the hotel. I've stayed there several times. The first time was sometime in 2000, there was a wonderful girl there Kelly, Kally, Keely--I'm not sure which. She was from Georgia too! I loved her. There was also another lady Leeta, Luta??(I'm sorry If I've misspelled her name), but she was wonderful too. Loved the hotel, can't wait to go back!

And I like it too!

Stayed here for one night in January 2004, and were very happy with our stay. We'd spent our first canyon night at Bright Angel, but once we realised how close Tusayan was to the park, we almost wished we'd had both nights here. Yeah, it's your standard Holiday Inn room, and we had a not so charming view of a wall, but the property was clean and well looked after. No problems at all with the staff - they were most pleasant and helpful. Then again, we were there in winter, when things were quiet - it must be a hard place to work at the height of summer canyon mania. The best part of it all was the included breakfast, which went well beyond the usual continental offerings of anemic danishes and bad coffee. Bagels, toast, cereal, croissants, hot cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, good coffee... it was yummy. And very popular - everyone ended up sharing tables, but that was a good way to meet other tourists. All in all, a great place to stay at one of the world's great places to visit.

Had a very enjoyable stay

My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for two days on Nov.

3rd & 4th, 2003. After reading some of the reviews, we have to wonder if we were all staying at the same hotel. I made a reservation through the Holiday Inn website and by booking 21 days in advance was provided a rate of only $44.10 USD. The staff were very courteous and provided us a room near an exit so we didn't have to haul our luggage very far.

The room was clean and despite the hotel being very busy, the room was quiet. The first morning I didn't receive a paper (although I was a Priority Club Member) however, when I brought this to the attention of the front desk, they immediately provided me with one. The next morning I received a paper. Only negative was that the indoor pool room was a bit chilly, however the pool and hot tub water temperatures were just fine. The hotel serves an excellent continental breakfast, with lots of variety. We were able to skip lunch both days. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. J & P

Lousy Attitidue

from A TripAdvisor Member
Terrible attitude of personnel. They were surly and argumentative. They did not honor or reservation request of type of room and blamed everyone else but themselves. What happened to the "customer is always right"? Will not recommend this place to anyone. After traveling 9 hours, you don't need their nonsense.

Never again.

We were very upset and dissapointed when we arrived at the Holiday Inn Express where we had made reservations for a no smoking room, with a king size bed, at least 5 weeks prior to our arrival. At check-in we were advised that they did not have a king size bed available and if we didn't like it we didnt have to stay. When I stated that I was disappointed with there attitude I was told that they too could refuse service to people they didnt want in there hotel. With this comment it was decided that we would look for other accomodations. DO NOT TRUST VERBAL CONFIRMATIONS....GET IT IN WRITING....OR BE DISAPPOINTED LIKE WE WERE.

Great breakfast; frugal accommadations

frugal hotel; clean but cramped quarters. better to stay in park;location is fine for outside of park pool is small and hotel smelled like bleach not enough room for family of 4 unless children are very small

Baby from hell

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was okay. Not great. The room was clean but didn't have much daylight. Our next-door neighbors had the baby from hell. It kept crying through most of the night. So the rooms could do with better soundproofing. Breakfast was acceptable.

I'm a member of the Priority Club and didn't get my free newspaper on the first day (I did get it on the second day). Other than that you don't get special treatment.

I've you like to stay here check out the Holiday Inn web site. They sometimes offer discounts. I do find the hotel a bit on the expensive side.

Bad service and attitude

from MackinacGal
Personnel at this Holiday Inn Express are suffering from a bad case of bad attitude. After spending the day at the Grand Canyon we arrived at our hotel around 3:00pm to check in. The hotel staff sent us packing and said that no rooms would be ready until after 4:30pm. After insisting upon seeing our room, it was determined that rooms were clean! Others arriving at the same time received the same treatment.

Although I am a frequent traveler and belong to the Holiday Inn Priority Club (registered on my reservation and upon arrival) - I never received a newspaper or any other indication of priority status.

The pool at this hotel is extremely small. staff is surly and upkeep meets only minimal standards. I would not recommend this motel to anyone. Next time, I will stay elsewhere.
