1am: So now I'm feeling much better about this trip! =) Let's recap... after my last entry, I watched the Apprentice and then went to bed... about 10pm!! (or 9...ha). A half hour later my phone in my room rang and I stumbled to get it. It turned out to be Nigel (whom I've been emailing too) saying that him and someone else were going for a drink. So I quickly got dressed again and ran down to meet Nigel and David (Nigel from London, David from Tennesee). We walked to the bar at the Best Weste...

... The main reason was that very few people lived in the area and they fled when they felt the earthquakes that preceded the eruption. Should a similar eruption occur on a volcano like Mount Vesuvius in Europe, with the city of Naples lying close to the volcano, the situation would be quite different!

Took the train from Talkeetna to Anchorage yesterday...another nice ride. We saw a moose as we crossed through the grounds of Elmendorf Air Force Base. It was dark and rainy so no pictures of him.
I am now sitting at the Anchorage airport waiting for my flight home. It will be a little more pleasant as for an extra 10k frequent flier miles I was able to get first class seats for the return trip. That will be nice on a red eye ...
... saw spouts of water coming up from the other side of the inlet. We were able to see the pod through the binoculars and you could see the spouts of water by the naked eye. It was the perfect finish to the trip.
We had to say goodbye to Chet first at the airport, then Betsy, Kenny and Ramon. We were next to be dropped off but arranged to catch up for dinner with Angela, AC, Nacho and Ramon at the Glacier Brewhouse. The Glacier Brewhouse ...
... from Ron, from the caravan, telling us that Red and Wilda had been in an accident and had been taken to the hospital. By the time we returned to the campground, they had been released. It turns out that Red neglected to stop for a red light. Wilda cracked a couple of ribs and pulled the cartilage in her chest. Red said that his chest was bruised and sore from the seat belt. It is possible that there pickup may ...
Anchorage, Alaska, United States nocknockThe last night at Alaska. No specific schedule, just shopping, and easy short drive to the berry farm to see the chocolate fountain. Our flight was like 1:28 a.m., so we got to the airport around 10 p.m. Finally, the night fell. I was so glad to see the night. My eyes felt comfortable. No wonder we all felt sore for the eyes, the sun's been shining all day long!
... the water made for some great pictures. This was Fred's inaugural run and we had nice conversation about Alaska and other topics of interest. He was born in Nome and resided in Fairbanks. We made a coffee and treat stop at Girdwood at the bakery right off the highway. The coffee was good and the cinnamon roll was tasty. Girdwood Station Mall is a gas station/bakery/gift strip center at ...
Anchorage, Alaska, United States walkingglassFrom where it is located on the calendar, July should be smack in the middle of summer - traditionally the warmest time of year in Anchorage. Instead the temps of 08 are producing the fewest days ever recorded that manage to reach 65 degrees. The other night when we trekked out to Potter Marsh after dinner, we all agreed we needed an extra layer, gloves and a hat! It felt a lot like early winter. I've seen a couple of partially sunny days but for the most ...
Anchorage, Alaska, United States kitchenshrink... achieved after making inquiries at Enterprise care hire and Budget, Budget won the deal by around $100 cheaper, certainly suits Earnie and Rick! Karon appeared happy to be left to her own devices for a few hours in the centre of town in a shopping mall; the boys having achieved their task await her return! No photos taken today it really is a small city centre and no real photos stand out to make it distinctive. It is the start point of the ...
Anchorage, Alaska, United States popusa2008... about 1 or 2 inches on the road- driving down like white fragile bullets. After that pass, the snow turned to cold drizzle and I made my way into Glenallen for lunch. There was a bar/restaurant/gift shop like of place there and I had some lunch. The road continued to meander down through curvy roads warning of avalanche danger and I was careful to KEEP MOVING despite the scenery. However, I did manage to stop over to look ...
