... kts.) It was great to be back out on the water and despite the rolling from side to side, it was a nice sail. Arrived in Nassau around 4:30PM and tucked into the Nassau Harbor Club. Dave had suggested anchoring for the night but I couldn't find anything in any of our books and charts that had anything decent to say about anchorages in Nassau. They do not have good holding, do have strong currents and boats swinging ...
Nassau, Bahamas takinbetzIt's been an interesting stay here in George Town. One nice advantage of being stuck here is that there are about 30 or more kids here in the anchorage, the most we've ever seen and several around the boys ages so they've had fun most afternoons (after the dreaded school work is done) running around in the dinghy, chaosing, swimming, playing volleyball or after dinner games. One boat organised a dinner barbeque on Hamburger Beach with all the ...
George Town, Bahamas bellavita... way up and you can't really get down there on the banks. Everyone is plotting their next move and no one is moving!!! If you get to Farmers Cay then you're stuck with no hidey hole and have to go on the outside. Georgetown would still be a week away if we wait out the front. The weather has been really blowing out of the ESE now - it's been 15-20+ for the past week and continuing to blow but we see a break ...
GREAT GUANA CAY, Bahamas takinbetz... Cays Land and Sea Park which stretches 22 miles with an average width of 8 miles covering 176 square miles total. It is a protected area similar to the Dry Tortugas Park. Shroud Cay is located three cays down - Norman, Wax Cay, Little Wax Cay then Shroud. Coming into the anchorage was easy and the anchor held well in sand in 10' of water. We released the dinghy and put the ...
Shroud, Bahamas takinbetzDuring our stay in Miami, our host Mike told us about cheap cruises to The Bahamas! We looked into possible cruises and on Wednesday we found a good deal for a cruise departing that Friday from the port of Miami, bound for Nassau. It was an opportunity too good to miss, so we booked it! We left Isla Morada late Friday morning, headed for the Port of Miami and by 2:00pm we were aboard The Carnival Imagination! We found our cabin & got settled in before taking a ...
Nassau, Bahamas traceourtracks... us leave our slip. It was the most difficult dock to get on and off the boat thus far with an almost impossible climb off and on the boat at low water, no ladder! After 2 days at Spanish Cay we were happy to be on the move again. It is not the most attractive place and we wondered about folks who had built large homes on this remote island. Yesterday a helicopter had flown in some folks ...
Manjack Cay, Bahamas darbornToday was our first A day of class aboard the MS Explorer. The class schedule aboard is divided into A and B days with different classes meeting on each. Since we really are pressed for time in class, we have class everyday we are at sea except for a few exceptions. I had Global Studies with everyone on campus on A and B days from 9:20am-10:35am. It's a requirement for everyone on the ship because we learn about the countries that we will be ...
Atlantic Ocean, Florida, Bahamas claudiv... ve all been pretty nice and very chatty, but its hard to know how genuine the locals are over here. One thing I do miss about Australia is that fact that most people can be reasonably up front about what the deal is, just for every day tasks. Overhere, everyones looking to make a buck out of the white guy, no matter how silly the job is. Get your bags taken to your room, have to tip; ask for directions, have to tip; starting to think you also have ...
Nassau, New Providence Island, Bahamas jakeyboy1989... was quite a satisfying meal, kitschy abmiance and all. This morning we got a better look at the hotel, which, while quaint and comfortable, is definitey in need of some sprucing up. It has a lot of regulars, most of whom are divers, so perhaps the owners aren't so motivated to spend much on maintenance and repairs. It did score points for the cheap but well-prepared breakfast, but given that it's far away from most other "attractions" on the ...
Nassau, Bahamas moinmotion... cruise cancellation- all of which are very unlikely to happen. However, "just in case", all t's must be crossed and i's must be dotted. As you approach the cruise terminal on the day of the cruise, you can expect to see throngs of very excited people handing their luggage to porters. You will receive your luggage tags in the packet of documents before you arrive at the cruise terminal. Go ahead and have those filled out completely and attached to your bags ...
