The long journey ahead

Sadly we had to leave our friends and headed off quite early (although not as early as originally planned). The trip went very well with no real holdups along the way. However it was a very long day and we were very glad to get to our destination, get something to eat and then some sleep. Fortunately the kids were all able to have their own beds as the room rates were quite reasonable. The most interesting sight was when we turned of the highway at Atlanta to look for somewhere to eat only to...

Alabama's hidden gem?

... lamps of different shapes and design, fluffy new towels, and a beautiful window shade that looked like art.

When we arrived at the venue, we were greeted by the most fun crew we've had yet. These guys have worked our show several times, and were familiar with the whole deal. So, when the van arrived late due to a flat tire, they had already unloaded the truck and were half way set up. They were so ...

Montgomery History Tour

... marches, Martin Luther King, Jr., Governor George Wallace, court ordered busing and integration, Rosa Parks, the bus boycott, the Southern Poverty Law Center and on and on....but THIS is the place where most of that history unfolded.

We stopped and toured the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King, Jr. was minister. We knocked on the door and a friendly woman let us in and gave the three of us a ...

Suzy (von Gal) & Young Stevenson

Suzy and her husband, Young live in the house that all four of my Alabama cousins were raised in by Uncle June and Aunt Suzy (or big Suzy once cousin Suzy was born) . Those of you in my family that have been to this house when we were kids, will recognize it’s original stature and grace as you notice the changes and expansions Suzy and Young have made to accommodate raising their combined 5 kids. The property was divided some years back giving Janet (Mother of George’s kids) the ...

Marney’s house was bought and restored by Marney, keeping a piece of family history alive. Her Mom, my Aunt Suzy spent a lot of time in the what is now Marney ...

Getting soaked in Montgomery

I dropped Luba off at the Savannah airport this morning at 5am. It was hard to see her off. We had the best time ever.

I had taken all side roads today all the way from Savannah. Traveled almost 600 miles before stopping for the day. I rode mostly on US 80 the entire day. I love riding on two lane roads. Its a great way to see the country side.

Stopped in Montgomery, Al. It just will not stop raining. Need a break. Waiting for the weather to ...

... her to willingly join us in the water. So that meant I had to pull her in. This was not an easy task and she scurried out as quickly as she could.

In the afternoon, my cousin Frankie saddled up some of the horses and Alex got to go for a little ride. Then there was more swimming and even time to hold one of Uncle D's new baby ducks...a father's day gift from his daughters.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing visit and can't wait to go back again.

Out in the Middle of Nowhere

... Oreo cookie and cream cheese balls dipped in chocolate...decadence. While Jackie was cooking, we walked down to the barn so Alex could help feed the horses. Tori & Bella were very intrigued with these new creatures and weren't quite sure how to approach them. It was a funny site.

Days 26-27

... get bombarded by large mayfly type bugs. Ted doesn't like them much and neither do I. We walk further down the block to the main downtown corner. Looking up, the lightpoles and stop light stems are plastered with the bugs. On the ground they're all around - jumping they stick to your legs with long tails and antennae. We try to escape but they're everywhere. A couple get on Ted's back and shoulder and he does a squawking shimmy ...

Cranky Old Guy

... We shared an order of onion rings while waiting for our food- if only I had known! It was hard to share indeed, and I almost wanted to remind them that they could come back anytime and have these onion rings again, but I couldn't! Seasoned unlike anything I have ever had before, the outside crispy and almost as light as a potato chip, the onions fresh, juicy, not greasy, done to the proper 'limpness' but not mush. Oh, they were heaven. Then I had my fried catfish- again ...
