... garage behind some businesses on Highway 89A, the main drag. The view from the garage, the GARAGE, was gorgeous. You can't get a bad view in this town.
It makes me hurt to see houses built on scarlet cliff ledges, restaurants on the banks of Oak Creek, fast food junksters below wind swept rock pillars.
You can't duplicate this setting. There's only one.
It should've been a national park. No place on earth deserves it more.
Sedona, Arizona, United States bobnkaren... to the village, back in the car
to do our own drive east along the Desert View route. Had some better
views of more of the river and 12 miles later we reached desert view.
Had a tall watch tower built in the 30's that you could look down into
the canyon from. Awesome view. We then found a good spot and waited for
the sunset at 5:30pm, pretty sure nothing else on the trip will beat
that sight as the sun set over the canyon and we were left with a pink
sky ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States rich_charlotteSedona takes itself very seriously. Try http://www.visitsedona.com/ to see why. It's beautiful, rare and rich. But if you look, you can find a corner that looks nothing like the rest of Arizona and feels nothing like the rest of Sedona--a corner so WET, you'd never guess it was only inches from the desert.
Sedona, Arizona, United States bobnkaren... to sleep on long haul flights.

The dirt track is exactly that and we were slightly paranoid about how much damage we'd do to the Mustang. As per yesterday, breaking down would not be a good way to end the day. In the end we made it round though most of the interior of the car was covered in red sand to such an extent that we may need to either get it valeted before San Francisco or just drive through a thunderstorm with the roof down and hope ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States pjarowi1... upset. I could not go back anywhere near the edge, nor could I look down into the canyon. All pictures taken after that episode were taken from the car. It was really scary! We had come into the park by the West entrance, and we drove around the rim, about 15 miles, and exited the East entrance. The drive from there to Flagstaff was really beautiful! The Canyon kept widening until it became the "Painted Desert", which we saw from a ...
Flagstaff, Arizona, United States captnoindustry... I'm sure there are various versions but they should all have the same basic premise. I'm still not sure what Stella's daughter's name is. Maryanna is a name that came to me. Somehow I think her name still derives from Mary. I wish I could remember names better. So there you have it. My life on the big screen. Coming to a Theatre near you! I still think I'm hallucinating all this from the lack of oxygen at this altitude. Think It! Feel It! Live It! I LOVE YOU!
Williams, Arizona, United States cobra1899... pretty much the same, except maybe for Iceland. Landing at Reykjavik International is like landing on the moon. The landscape is quite similar in fact, except for all the water in Iceland, in profuse solid liquid and gas forms at all times. Iceland in fact is the only place where the mid-Atlantic ridge juts above the water line, so it's a geologist's wet dream, spewing and sputtering and bursting at the seams. That is where new land is oozing ...

Some of the reason for their long-lived success is the pines which are very unappetizing to most animals. Grand Canyon Finally, after a 30 mins bumpy ride from The Joshua Tree Forest, we reached the Grand Canyon national park. The area is owned by Indians so you need some kind of permission to ...
Grand Canyon, Arizona, United States torkjel... Little did he suspect that our intent was to get him to leave so that we could get unobstructed photos of the ram.

After getting our ram pictures, we continued along the South Rim Trail. We stopped at the Trailview Overlook to get a view of the village and the Bright Angel Trail. Dianne had visions of trying the Bright Angel Trail before we arrived. However, I was not in favor of it once I read the elevation change (about 3,000 feet from the trail head to ...
