    ... we pulled into the turn lane. There were 3 lanes going into the center and only one gate open. They need help here!! Twenty minutes later we got through the gate to the parking lot. There were lots of school groups, most very well behaved. It was the kids with families that seemed to run everywhere like wild children. Oh well!

    The Islands are connected by a free ferry that runs 24/7, and one from Galveston Island to the mainland too. We took advantage of them, saved us miles, avoided Houston and was a quick hop into Louisiana still traveling the TX Bird Trail. We saw lots of migratory birds, eagles, hawks, Cara Cara, a raptor native to TX and a variety of cranes: sand hill and whooping grazing in fields along side cows.
