... navigating us through Des Moines to the hotel. Tomorrow, head over towards the Quad Cities, see my aunt who just got diagnosed a couple days ago with stage 4 cancer that had spread to the brain, and then work towards home for a late night arrival. Sigh, there have been many things that have made us wonder if this vacation should have occurred, but yet we survived and life with hectic and chaotic once we get home, Sigh
Des Moines, Iowa, United States kayaker902... We reached the interstate and Mark was more comfortable with the surroundings until the GPS told us we were going to Kansas City, two hours away. A minor freak out and we kept on going and eventually reached the road our motel was on and we knew where we were. We got to the chapel, the boys had everything covered so we wandered back outside and headed over to the football field where Simpson College were hosting a game. This was my first gridiron experience on US soil which I loved ...
Des Moines, Iowa, United States hoffers... inside Simpson College) as well as the motel... and some stop signs!
Alicia was guiding me through the streets so when I looked comfortable Alicia being Alicia started talking a bunch and then yelled out "STOP SIGN" so I slammed on the brakes. This 'T' intersection would have been a through road for me with a stop sign for the side road in Australia so I wasn't really used to it. Alicia began chatting again and the very next intersection I ran the stop sign. She asked if I had to ...
... got up and jumped on the computer so he avoided slacker status. The plan for the day was to do the grand Des Moines tour so we got our stuff together, bode farewell to Nate (he had to work) and headed off.
So there we were, myself, Alicia, Mark and Kym... and whoever was on the other end of Alicia's phone at the time (she was ringing ALL day much to her annoyance). The first stop was the Des Moines Capitol building (which works cos Des Moines is the capital ...

... Moines Arts Center, Science Center of Iowa and Des Moines Botanical Center. And, some enjoyed ordering room service at the lovely Des Moines Marriott Hotel, and spending the morning elevating their tired, aching feet.
The warm, humid weather that helps to make Iowa such a productive farming region is a mixed blessing for Choir members. Many find the humidity helpful in keeping their voices sounding good throughout the difficult demands of concerts, sound checks and video shoots ...
A business trip was scheduled to audit billboards along railroad property in the state of Iowa, so I took this opportunity to spend a few days beforehand visiting with family and friends in north central Iowa. I had developed a list of favorite foods I missed from Iowa that I intended to consume at every opportunity: breaded pork tenderloin sandwich, corn-fed beef, fresh garden strawberries, rhubarb and pie.

Billie's got a long drive ahead of her, so she leaves a bit early and the rest of us go to a blues bar, Blues on Grand. It's open mic night and there are quite a few talented people taking the stage. It's a nice night. No one really dances though, unfortunately I'm alone on the dancefloor again.
After all the bands, we went back to David's house and promptly fell asleep.
... going on. The planning and design company he works for is doing many of the buildings in the area. We then headed to his house in north west Des Moines area to meet his family, wife Jenie, daughters maya and piper and Jenie's mother Grandma Karen. Jenie was busy working on the downstairs tiling of the bathroom and Grandma Karen was watching over the beautiful girls. We parked our moterhome on the street next to there house and watched the thunderstorms light up the moterhome all night.
Des Moines, Iowa, United States cainrvtrip... stay put?" Hell if I know. The sense of adventure maybe? Or accomplishment? Possibly just stupidity. :-) Anyway, as you should all already know, I'll be doing my next travelogue on a different website. I like it because I have more control over the look and feel, but there are a couple downsides. For example, it will NOT send you a notice to let you know I've posted a new entry. So, you can just bookmark my site on ...
