... to Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. We then visited the maritime Museum which displayed the USS Yorktown, aircraft carrier, USS Laffey, destroyer – the ship that wouldn’t sink (survived many Kamakazi attacks) and a Vietnam War Memorial. Left there at 6.30pm and back to Camp Wally. Very tired after a long, hot but good day.

Today we toured Charleston ...
... Also, all but one trail was flooded and even sections of the boardwalk path were under water, from recent floods. We walked as far as we could, looking at old growth hardwood forest and squirrels.
Then set off and arrived at Santee State Park. John spotted turkey vultures nearby. Beautiful wooded campground next to Lake Marion, largest lake in South Carolina, built by damming the Santee River in the 1940s. Warm weather at last. So good to be able to live outdoors ...
... trees, brush, houses etc.... The ice was throughout the whole state. Our goal was to get to Savannah but by the time we got into SC, it was getting darker. We weren't going to reach Savannah until at least 7pm so around 5:pm we called the hampton inn in Santee SC and booked another suite with King and cancelled the much more expensive room in Savannah. We are 100 mi north of Savannah so our drive tomorrow will be more 7 ...
Got off to a good start this morning...about 7:15. It was a pretty quiet, uneventful trip. We did see gas for $2.99 in Wytheville, VA and was going to get some, but this price was for cash. Richard thought we'd find the same price on down the road. NO...it was $3.00. Did we stop? Nahhh...kept going. At 1/8 of a tank, we did get gas...only it was $3.03. All I can say is, it's a lot less than at ...
... a MH rental company in Ontario, Canada, and he and his wife are returning home after 2.5 months in Bradenton, FL. I've been so lucky to met some very kindly people throughout my travels.
I was out walking Willow the morning we left Santee and came across two fellows who had just returned from fishing. I asked them if they had a good day, and one of them showed me a 30+ pound catfish. Yes, a good day!!
