This morning's liftoff from Centennial Airport was fantastic with smooth skies for the 3.25 hours all the way to Ponca City, OK for our first fuel stop and lunch. Interestingly, this was the first time I landed at an airport barely above 1000' MSL (actually the first time landing below 3500') so managing the fuel mixture and resultant cylinder head and exhaust gas temperatures during descent was a new experience. It truly is the conversation that makes these day-in-day-out 80 miles here, 90 miles there, bike rides actually bearable. It is a long stretch of miles we have coming up, more than I've ever done in any training and it's really ...
