... in the meantime.

My uncle told me a little more about the AUDAX organisation - I'd always assumed it was an Australian group given the first two letters of the name, but apparently it's from the latin word for 'bold' which makes sense, given English still has the word 'audacity'. The organisation started at the turn of last century in Europe where a team of riders would all set out on trips of a certain length and endevour to ride at the pace set by their leader ...

We went on a scenic drive along the gorge (which was quite narrow with our big bus!)

After we headed down to the town of Bright and then into Mount Beauty, stopping at the overlooks of the town.

Beechworth, Victoria, Australia macphails... best be gotten rid of, to which I received the response of 'no, I quite like the ghosts' from the lady, while her kids were much less comfortable with them, and I had a great discussion with the kids about Jesus and how He could protect them from the ghosts, and they delighted in telling me all about how they had learnt that Jesus died and then came back from the dead in their school scripture classes (probably a hot topic, with Easter fast approaching.) In the end, we all ...

Albury, New South Wales, Australia tstewyBus to Albury. SO HOT! Theres a major heat wave going through Aus right now. Temps in the 105-110 range where I am. It makes walking any sort of distance with a backpack pretty unfun. I did basically nothing in Albury, got in about 9 pm, left around 11 the next morning. To be honest, it didnt seem to have much to offer and I had no desire to stick around longer than I had to.
Albury, New South Wales, Australia murf6481We are getting ready to leave for Costa Rica. Before we go, we have to pack our suitcases. We have to bring colouring in and Christmas presents. We need clothes and swimmers and our toothbrushes and toothpaste and our washbag. Tomorrow we will be driving to Melbourne after school and we will stay in a hotel. In the morning we will go to the airport and fly to Los ...
Gundowring, Australia thomaskempAlbury is the biggest city between Canberra and Melbourne, yet there is not a single hostel in town. Neither are there any backpackers or tourists, even though Albury would certainly deserve some (I mean that in a positive way - just in case you wondered). It was refreshing to be in a place without a tourist infrastructure and to speak to locals (who all seemed to want to invite us to their home/farm/bush) rather than other travelers. The city itself is nice and very laid back ...
Albury, Australia tom_s... promised ourselves that in winter, we would use en suite sites - the loo is closer and the smaller room means that it is warmer when having a shower. Some of these amenities blocks seem to be freezing!! The man offered us a scenic site - right down near Lake Hum, but said the wind would probably be frigid - enough of wind at Toora. I said I wanted to be close to the loo, so in the middle of the park we are - I think we are the only ...
Gerogery, Australia newtripper... with greenery, and made our first stop at around 11 to have a little breakfast. We went on our way fully refreshed and drove for a couple more hours until we reached the border of Victoria and New South Wales. We spotted a crazy golf site, and Tom, being a budding Tiger Woods, fancied a go. I think that we were the only customers that they had had in many a few years as the place was a little run down and falling apart. There was a trout farm there and we were tempted to fish ...
