Going West

Hi, there Since my last entry, have finished the conservation volunteer programme and travelled in a generally westward direction ending up here in Perth. Except for the 5am starts really enjoyed the animal census at Tuggarah national park which we were doing on the last week of the programme. Basically, this involved laying out traps and checking them each morning before the sun got too high and caused any harm to the critters, hence the early starts. During the course of the week came face ...

Off on a 20hr plane journey...yay

... service, but they definitely have great technology and being able to watch whatever movie, concert, listen to CD etc. helped pass the time. Was able to get a bit of sleep on way to Dubai, but was crammed between other people.

Dubai was steamy and full of haze. Airport huge as expected. Had a browse for things I might get on my way back (2 hr stopover). Then on to London! Again, got some sleep and watched some vids (7 hr flight).

Home again

... Port Gregory was fine but very small. The caravan park had a nice camp kitchen where we met some nice people. Most people there are keen fishermen -not us. From there we drove into Geraldton where we called on Phillip and Kathy Knife (friends from Exmouth days). They are moving back to Perth next month so we were lucky they were still there. We had lunch at Geraldton and walked around the foreshore which has had a lot done to it and is quite impressive. We then drove on ...

Another Leinster shutdown and a major development.

... is Leinster? ) for a week long shutdown so I was familiar with the site. When I went back for the second time I learned that we were spending two nights in the underground section. A full one kilometre underground. Thoughts of Brant Webb and Todd Russell didn't really enter my head because the mine tunnels were huge in order to accommodate the big trucks and infrastructure down there. It felt like we were working on the surface, only we ...

... I have my bird book I was able to identify them. They are the salmon coloured Galahs and there many of them. Gas was the cheapest we have seen here in Australia so needless to say we filled up. We used the GPS to drive through Perth today as we will be back here at the end of the month as we have to fly from Perth to Singapore. The Swan Valley area is just like the Niagara Regoin with all the estates and wineries offering samples along the way. You would need a DD here. We ...

... tour bus pick up. We headed out to the north of Perth to Swan Valley where we went to several wineries in the morning starting our tastings at 10.30. We tried many different wines and cheeses before a shared platter lunch. We were the youngsters of the group as we were with Mick and Eli's diving club. They were a great bunch of people and it was a fun day of adult conversation and drinking! After lunch we continued our tour to a brewery then headed ...
