No Hiding in inclement weather in Oslo!

... more savvy than I give them credit for....they had info on all the Peace Prize winners and a special hall on the latest winner. Sandy and Grace played on a game that I later saw a pic of the Dali Lhama playing on! Could I be more happy....my kids....playing with the same game as the Dali Lhama......or walking the halls of the most respected men and women of the world....

These hateful teens turned into gods.....in my world....peaceful ones! Not the Wiking ones. This was ...

He showed me town hall, the legislature, and we took the ferry to a museum for the FRAM, the first ship to sail to both the north and south poles. There was maps of the places it had been, and I should say that I am very jealous. But my favorite thing was the exhibition on a humanitarian that was Norweign. He had many good quotes and had been admitted into the Nobel Prize ...

... to the old Cattle Market - which today is a nice flower and fruit market. We viewed famous hotels and buildings as well as the Parliament Building and the National Theatre. We were lucky enough to see some of the guards marching down the main street towards the castle past the first University in Norway where we happened to be stationed on a park bench writing postcards at the time. We walked ...

Party towns

(Written on Aug 24) This week has been a crazy one with not much sightseeing being done but a lot of partying. Last Saturday when the workcamp ended a large group of us took on Reykjavik town to see if the night life really was as good as it is said. The rumours are possibly true, but the problem is you have to be a millionaire, and also very well organised to enjoy it. Alchohol laws and shop hours are quite strict in Iceland, so we were gutted when we missed ...

... with awesome bragging rights over his neighbours. A lot of Munch's paintings on display seemed half finished, like he'd done all the base work and was yet to touch up the detail. There were plenty with scratches s well, done by Munch while he worked. The version of the scream we saw was the oldest, and is also famous for being stolen from the gallery in 1994. The painting had been moved into the gallery's lobby as a special display for the Lilliehammer Winter ...

Welcome to Norway (Velkommen til Norge)

... It was a delicate, summer evening light, and although it was already 8PM on my watch, the brilliant sky reminded me more of 4PM. We sat and had some cappuccino, tiramisu, and talked and just relaxed on this lazy Scandinavian evening in July. Afterwards, we headed back down to the bustling harborfront shopping district of Akers Brygge and dined on grilled salmon and Norwegian pasta at Druen Restaurant. Afterwards, I looked at my watch ...

THE STORY SO FAR

... fastened when we were departing the station. I'm pretty sure that we were wearing seat belts to survive any potential accident, a safety net if you will, not because this guy was going to drive like some bat out of hell and not give a damn if there was road to drive on or not. I was really glad to arrive in Brighton in one piece i can tell you. Brighton is regarded as one of Britain's hippest cities and on first impressions you get the feeling that anything goes. It has a ...

A Cruise to Oslo, Norway

... right on the waterfront and has many beautiful statues and boats near it. We also walked by the Nobel Prize Museum. Finally we strolled into the Akershus Fortress, a 700+ year old fortress that is absolutely beautiful. We spent a lot of time at Akershus, taking pictures and goofing around. Last but not least, since we were in Norway, we had to sample the local barley harvest. We stopped into a quaint pub and tasted Norway's most famous brew, Ringnes, which dates back to 1877.

... good pictures. it was almost eerie though, because i was expecting the statues to come to life at any second to try to kill us. i think i may have an over active imagination. by this point we were all getting a bit frustrated and tired however, because we were hungry, some of us (aka me) had blisters on their feet, others were thirsty, and we were lost. so what happened next can only be described in two words. "Death March". kyle was ...

Leaving Stavanger

... and I decided to make just one visit and work the other person in on the way back from Trondheim and before Sweden. We got off at the Asker station outside of Oslo. There we called an old friend Dag Noeglegaard who came and picked us up. We went to dinner at a restaurant on a fjord called The Strand, meaning "beach." The location was beautiful. We sat outside even though the temperature was a ...
