... at the giant penis which had detailed carvings of people on that too, all the way to the tip. Strange but cool. Then I ended up back at the hostel which was a very nice place. There was nothing much else I wanted to see and the rest of the crew in my room felt the same way so we just stayed and talked. They were all poms, two girls and two boys who arrived separately. It was great. I hope to meet them in the UK if I can

Melting heat in Oslo

... But apparently the thing to do was to secure the best seat either inside by the window or a good chair outside in the sun. Well, we got a seat, just not the best one. The boat was a huge, new; ten deck boat so there was plenty of room. We really wanted to wander around a lot. We also got a small room to store our lunch and backpacks in and to maybe take a rest later, although we really didn’t use it.

Of course we wanted to stand at ...

... that's free to enter. We watched the changing of the guard - not so easy I think to carry a semi-automated weapon in one hand over your shoulder, swing the other arm while marching in snow with a massive coat and hat that reminds you of the mad hatter in Alice in Wonderland. All while hundreds of people stare at you - not the best job in the world as I am not sure what or how they are actually protecting?? With almost 60 museums on offer in ...

The Norwegian Capitol

see additiaonl note at bottom added 8/17/08 OSLO: It looked as though rain was threatening the day as we sailed into Oslo Harbour. I spent my first hour or so awake with breakfast and coffee on deck. It was cool, and I needed a jacket as I walked around the promenade with my morning java. I then spent the ensuing hour writing yesterdays bog entry and posting it on the site, which was a pleasant way to spend the hour in the Explorations Lounge. Carol ...

... risk it posed on the children, they left because of a large boulder sitting on the cliffs above their house, now 100 years on the boulder is still there. So last night we slept on the edge of the fjord on the grounds of someone's farm. As soon as we had parked we started cooking up a curry and a few members of the farmyard invited themselves to dinner. Three gorgeous little Shetland ponies came trotting along as well as a group of sheep their bells ringing loudly as they walked ...

THE STORY SO FAR

... Asia. As the days leading up to my departure were a general mish-mash of snow, rain and cold wind I was somewhat surprised by the glorious sunshine in Dublin and I remember thinking is the sun shinning because its happy I'm leaving or is it a gentle reminder of how good Dublin can look on a summers day. Either way I took it as good omen, said goodbye to family and friends and made my way to the station. The one-way fare on euro lines cost me Eur20 from Busaras to London ...

Oslo

... setting out to find a hostel. Internet was ridiculously priced. While surfing I found only 2 hostel options in Oslo, typically a city will have up to 30, but Oslo, only two. I found one of the two hostels with availability and the cheapest cost was still outrageously expensive. I found to fear a western European country dependant on their own currency that chooses not to conform to the Euro, the East is much different, those countries ...

Perfectly Nordic

... style of a different era. Or the reconstruction of the farming town in Setesdal valley, where its inhabitants were so isolated that they still showed medieval traditions in the 19th century . The grass covered rooftops of the small but tough wooden houses reminded me of a more primitive House on the Prairie. On the ferry ride back we enjoyed the ...
