Stockholm, and the archipelago...Uto and Fjardling

... round my head...I decided to take a morning dip in the water off the jetty, . i plunged into he water - expecting the worst .. pleasantly reassured by the refreshing - but not cold - water. Richard observing me from the balcony grinned "try doing that in April - then you really know whats hit you!" ... Later I walked into the city to get my bearings...stopping off at a kayak club for a hearty pie and a coffee on pretty Stortoget square in Gamla Stan where ...

We made it Stockholm!!

... size of this thing! The other dish we tried was the fish soup. We got it at Kajsas Fish Restaurang. It was very tasty with the aioli mixed in this brothy, yet, creamy soup. It had fish, shrimp, mussels, and other spices. The best part about this dish was the fact that it was refillable!! And you can eat as much crackers, bread, and salad as you want. This was probably the best meal deal during our trip!

Venice of the North

... at a pizzeria and then walked the town and found some incredible look out points. Kyle and I watched the sun set over the town and reflected in the silvery waters. Ships came into harbor, and one tourist attraction, a replica of a magnificent sailboat sounded several cannons which echoed against the city's storefronts and cafes. Kyle rubbed my aching feet as we settled into a park bench to watch the view. With a darkening sky above us, we walked back to the hotel for a ...

Stockholm, Sweden

... parts of the city are two islands, one is small and houses the Royal palace and other important government buildings. The larger island has the old town on it. Thin medieval streets separate 16th and 17th century houses with neat shops on the ground floor. On this island are the Royal apartments, church with clock tower, a town square, the Nobel Museum and other cool stuff. We arrived in Stockholm about 4:00pm and we found our way to the hostel, which was actually a ...

Arriving in Stockholm

... moved to a larger room on the 5th floor. Unpacked some things and got into bed...I nearly fell straight out as the bed had a huge hill in the middle. Packed up again and went down to reception to let them know. After some discussion with the night manager the man at reception moved us to the 7th floor, the club lounge floor which included breakfast. Moved to that room and finally got to sleep at 12.30am.

... crowd and creating wilder and wilder excuses to get away from the annoying Swedish girl. And that was the Estonia trip. Twas a particularly epic night. Nights like that seem to happen a lot in Sweden, it's a pretty crazy country. In other news I've started learning Swedish and uni has started with a vengeance. Everyone here actually studies, its horrible! But it's all more or less group work so far which is fun and makes it easier than it should be. Cyas all, hope you're well.

Morning Walk in Uppsala

... you about my daily life and interesting experiences. My flight here from Washington was perfect--uneventful and I got at least four hours of sleep. Kristine and Jocke left for Grenoble, France a few hours prior to my arrival so I headed to their apartment to do my cat-sitting duty for Caesar. The wonderful taxi driver carried all FOUR of my very heavy bags up four flights of stairs to ...

... I also tried out some Danish cheese and had a BonAqua lemon water (all very good). The night train was about what I expected. You have a bunk to sleep on, and that's about it; there's only enough room to lie down and not enough to sit up. They provide pillow, pillow case, a sheet, and a blanket. Once the train starts up, the conductor comes by to check your ticket, then you don't have anything to do but try to sleep as the train ...

Intermezzo

... Ola, with whom I spent most of the evening talking over some czech beer, viking mead and some almost beer (3.5% stuff that is the heaviest they are allowed to sell in Sweden after a certain hour.) to round it up. The next day the weather was more merciful and I actually could walk the day away around Gamla Stan (the old part of the city) and its surroundings. The old town is really nice, with its ...

Another marathon

... was a really sunny day so it seemed a shame that I wanted to go into the castle but as I was feeling a lot better today I knew I needed to do some sightseeing. I wanted to see the history of the castle and it was very interesting all about the fires and rebuilding that has gone on for the castle. I was meeting Ulrika on the Gamla Stan Island at 15:00. I had time to walk around a little more before checking all the outside bars in the square to see if she had got ...
