Day 14 visit to the City of Edinburgh, Scotland
September 17th was a sunny cool day that we spent without using our car for the only day during our trip. We travelled from Rosyth to Edinburgh (20 minute trip) on the local commuter train service. Upon arriving in Edinburgh we found ourselves at the Haymarket Traiin Station and after a bit of searching came up with a City map at the nearby Hilton …
The Beginning of the Last Holiday
Our Christmas holiday began unlike many of our holidays by staying at the Quality Inn the night before our flight left. It was actually cheaper for us to stay there as we could leave our car there for 2 weeks, we got breakfast included. The best was being able to sleep in an extra 45mins before catching our 6:30am flight to Berlin. We arrived to …
Edinburgh: Where to Stay?
Edinburgh Airport Hotels I've been to Edinburgh several times, but I've always stayed with friends. However, I'm headed over there for Thanksgiving this year, and both the beds I usually occupy have been filled. It seemed to me that I should do a bit of research about where to stay. I usually use hostelworld.com as a first resource when searching …
Saving The Best for Last?
It was a sad morning as we packed up and had to say goodbye to our lovely little Scottish farm cabin. It was much cooler this morning, but Meg came to greet us at the door again. No walk this morning, but she did get several biscuits just for being so darn cute. Helen picked us up and we set out for a southern trek to Elcho Castle. I had never …

Very nice, very fancy - like any Hilton. Conveniently located to the Airport.

This place has a great breakfast and if you book online, it will be cheaper all round. Great big rooms and cheap.

Historical Traveler Reviews Hilton Edinburgh Airport
I dislike this place
I have had the misfortune of staying here a few times now, always as we have an early flight and it's very handy for the airport. The pro are that it is a 2 minute shuttle bus to the airport, but that's about it. It is totaly devoid of any character or charm. Every time we check in we are always greetd with "are you sure you booked for 3 people, the booking only has 2 down" - kind of think we'd remember we had a 10 year old son! Anyway the extra bed was sorted out quciky enough (this time). The bar area is really like sitting in the lobby and is okay for a quick nightcap and not much else. The rooms themselves are fine - clean enough, have a bed, TV and shower - all that we really need for a quick heads down.
I'd only recommend this as somewhere to go to sleep before an early flight, I'd really not fancy having an extended stay there if visiting Edinburgh.
Staff nice but hotel needs rennovating
My family stayed at this hotel for two nights due to my husbands business and were very disappointed. It definitely does not live up to the Hilton standard. Overall, I have yet to see a Hilton overseas that is decent.
The first rooms they brought us to were smelly, old, and the air-conditioning didn't work. So, we got two new rooms and the AC didn't work in these either. Basically, this hotel does not have AC! Even though they claim they do, all they have are units that circulate the air but do not cool it. The carpet was dirty (I was afraid to walk around without my shoes on).
One of the maintenance men was very nice and brought us fans for our rooms because the rooms were so hot! (Probably around 80 degrees!) I'm sure they have complaints all of the time about the lack of AC because the fans were readily available. The front desk staff was pretty nice but they didn't know much about Edinburgh.
Pay the extra money and stay closer to town. This hotel is way overpriced for what you get!
4 star - I don't think.. maybe if they mean the beer !
I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times a month for the last 3 years - convenience to my Edinburgh office. The reception staff are yet to recognise me or use my name - although one of the bar staff (the excellent Linzi) always does.
There are regularly errors on the booking - always the booking agents fault!
Rooms are OK - but very unremarkable.
Food is OK, but only OK. I tend to go out at my own expence rather than eat in on the company.
Worst of all is the bar. Seating is old and worn out. No smoking is OK for some but does mean that all the smokers now go to the lounge. The beer is poorly kept and expensive - and don't think about a chabli. And they regularly shut the bar at 11pm so the staff can "go home".
The worst hotel in Scotland, UK, Europe?!
I had the misfortune of staying here for the last night of a 7 night business trip in Scotland, a choice made simply due to its locality to the airport. Over the 7 nights i stayed in 7 different hotels in all the major cities in Scotland, and this was by far the worse of the week and the worst i have EVER stayed in, globally!
The check in staff were rude and did not know what they were doing / talking about..no-one knew how the parking worked, no-one gave me directions to my room, instructions on meal times etc. Once i arrived in my room afer having had a heated discussion with the check in staff about their mistake in my booking (i had booked and paid for bed and breakfast, but they only had me booked for bed, a problem sorted out by showing my booking confirmation), the room was clean and tidy. However, there was no soap, shampoo, shower gel or an ashtray for a smoking room. It took 3 hours and 3 phone calls to reception to receive a bar of soap. Concierge finish work at 5 pm!
Room service was appalling, it took an hour and when it arrived it was stone cold, the salad was brown and it all looked like it had been sat waiting to be delivered for a week. Needless to say i didnt bother with breakfast.
The parking is an additional charge of £5 overnight, and when i was leaving no-one at reception was able to tell me how to pay, so it was pot luck. I waited for 1 hour to get out of the car park as the gate was broken and no-one seemed to know what to do.
I wrote to the management and filled in the departure comment forms which explicitly state that you will be contacted if there were any issues, i have not been contacted!
All in all this was by far the worst experience i have ever had, 3rd world country hotels and staff are head and shoulders above this joke of a place. It is overpriced at £110 per night, inc B&B, +£5 parking regardless of this experience.
I would advise anyone thinking of staying here to re-think and book a hotel in the City and get a cab or bus to the airport, which all members of my company now do.
Excellent Hotel
My daughter and myself stayed two nights in this hotel and enjoyed it so much we would go back. Staff at reception made us feel welcome and were so friendly. No complaints regarding the Restaurant food was very good. Service excellent. Bedroom was very clean with a good firm bed. We like the Hilton group.
Lost and never Found
I work in the travel industry, but that does not really matter I guess. I did not stay here specifically because it was Hilton. It was not a pricey Hilton that you may find here in the USA. Anyway this was a few years ago before I knew about this sight. I bought a "Scottish Quilt" and had it wrapped at the store, then when I got back to Hilton I requested them to mail it to my home address and paid for postage. Unfortunatly I never got it. Their response was not taking owenership of the problem. Anyway the lesson is when buying stuff like that overseas pay with credit card, and have the store mail it to you. That way if you never recieve it, you dont have to pay for it. One more thing. I travel around a lot. I did have some bad run in(s) with some people in a pub. Anyway I hear Glaskow is far more interesting and entertaining. Also the room service quality of food was nothing to brag about. Seems like an independent owner bought the place and rents the rights to the Hilton name.
Perfect, just perfect
I stayed here a week ago for 3 days and really couldnt fault the place.
From the moment I walked in I was treated like a king. I travel a great deal and use hotels all the time and this was perfect. The staff, the room, the food, the health club and pool were just perfect.
It isnt cheap and the car parking cost builds up but I would stay here any time.
Poor Reception Staff
On our return from a 8 day trip to Nice my wife and I decided to use the park and fly facilities offered by this hotel. We booked in around tea time, used the leisure facilites, ate and drank that evening then retired to our beautiful well presented room for the night.
Unfortunately thats where the pleasurable experience ended. The Receptionist the following morning was incredibly dismissive, unattendative, did not once call us by our names, snapped at my wife with the words " Well the parking is not free " when our parking requirements were indeed included in the deal we purchased, something she failed to confirm whilst checking us out, this experience left my wife very upset and dissapointed. Its a shame that one member of staff can alter ones perception with such a negative hostile attitude.
Wonderful Luxury
We had our wedding in the Hilton Edinburgh Airport and for the entire weekend, we and our 100 guests were truly pampered by all the staff.
The staff quite simply are the best I've come across in any hotel. The hotel is out of the city but for quiet relaxation and customer care it simply can't be faulted. Highly recommended to anyone considering a quiet luxury visit to Edinburgh.
Disappointed
My husband and I spent Saturday night 27/3/04 at this hotel. We were attending a dinner dance. I was disappointed to find so many Dogs in this hotel, in fact we had to ask a lady who had two sheep dogs to move away from us while we were having our lunch. We saw at least twelve different kinds of dogs. In the morning when we came down for breakfast we saw one sitting on the settee in the lounge. I would hate to think I was allocated a room that had, had two sheep dogs or Irish Wolf Hounds in before me. You could even smell the dogs in the corridor. I would also like to take the opportunatey to say I found the drinks prices rather expensive.
