So, as my days as a cake seller wound down, we decided to make use of the van and go to Canberra for the weekend. We finished up at the market around lunchtime so popped into good ol' Nandos for some Portugasms. Went to our hotel and checked in, we actually have a jacuzzi in our bathroom, gggrrreeeeeaaaatttt! Had a shower then ventured out to the Australian War Memorial which believe it or not was really interesting, we didn't know what exactly the ozzies did for us in the war but now we do! ...

So here are some of them.. (I didn't invent these, so if anyone wants to comment with their own experiences - go ahead....)

We made a three day stop in the capital of Australia, Canberra. One day we spent hiking in a nature reserve outside of town. We had a wonderful hike to the Gibraltar Rocks. Saw lots of kangaroo along the way. Went through a forest of grass trees. Also saw a platypus. This is one of two mammals that lay an egg and then nurse the baby after it hatches. Hope you enjoy the picture. The second day in the capital city, we ...
Canberra, Australia stevebotts... they have now. And I went to the National Museum of Australia which also was not all it was cracked up to be. They had some interesting Aboriginal displays and a few things about Australian history, but other than that I was not impressed. Luckily the entry was free! The archictecture of the building was interesting but I found nothing that explained its significance. Strange. Today was a bit ...

Canberra, Australia joergen... started passing through an area with large lakes, not connected to the sea. Here there were pelicans and pied shags, all perching or fishing in the forest surrounded waters. A detour took us through the old village of 'Tilba Tilba', which has been preserved by the National Trust. Onwards and the forests were becoming thicker, with only the occasional sight of any fields but plenty of forest fire damage. The road stayed inland and ...

Canberra, Australia keenosDue to last night's festivities we woke up late today. This is fine since it has become a Brotz family tradition to wake up as late as possible on Christmas morning (a reversal of when I was a kid, when we'd rip into our presents at about half past 5). We had a quiet morning of a stollen breakfast (the second one was even better than the first) and exchanged gifts. Since it was just the four of us (me, Emily, Hartmut and Sue) it didn't take long. Emily and I both were given a ...
