Tønsberg

... but the 17m high Slottsfjellstårnet tower built after the war within the castle ground provides a good view of Tønsberg and the Oslofjord. Then the torrential rain came and the day trip to Tønsberg was abandoned for the next train to Oslo. Interesting fact for all you pub quizzers. The sanitory towel was invented here as well as alot of equipment associated with whaling and on that note i will end this blog here.

Stavern

... pyramid shaped remembrance momument is definitely worth a look before finally arriving at Stavern. Described as Norway's smallest town and affectionately 'known as the dimple of Norway'. Not sure if i would describe it as a dimple but it is definitrly worth a visit a small town which is so laid back. This town also has alot of military history and was once a naval base stood in the ground of Fredriksvern ...

From Trondheim to Vollen

... to Asker and our visit with Jacob. We arrived in Asker, succumbed to an ice cream cone. Up pulled up Jacob and we went quickly to his home. When we arrived a full Mexican dinner was waiting for us. We really enjoyed our conversation with him and his friend Ellen. He lives at the edge of Oslo Fjord. Tomorrow our plan is to take the train to Gothenburg but we see that the 9 am train is no longer on the schedule ...

... talking about the difference between American pancakes and the Norwegian ones (which are almost crepes). If I can find some maple syrup, I would like to make an American pancake breakfast for the family. I'd also like to try and bake some sugar cookies since I don't think I've seen them here yet. Tomorrow I'm getting the car, so I will try to drive to Tønsberg to see if I can find a can of cream of mushroom soup for making tuna noodle casserole for dinner ...

The World's End

... My job was to make the food. We have potatoes sliced up. We cooked them on the fire and put corn, cheese, ham and other toppings on them. It was really good, and it was my first warm lunch I had here. We also made pinnebrød, which is bread wrapped around a stick and cooked in the fire. It was really good. For dessert we had bananas with brown sugar and cinnamon on them. We cooked them in the fire ...

quick update

Hey, again, I'm at work, so I must keep this short. Time has flown by and it's my last day here. I wrote an entry offline about it last night that i'll post later. Tonight I pack up my stuff and head to Oslo with Jo-Petter to scope out the city and meet up with the other PLU students on Wednesday. I think I'll be in Hamar by Friday or Saturday. I might even have internet by Sunday! No promises. Anyway, I'm happy and healthy. More later!

Last Night in Andebu

... a mischievous smile every time I come in the door. She was probably the most difficult one for me to deal with during my second and third weeks here as she was constantly in a bad mood and would get upset very easily. This, in combination with my poor sign skills and her constant questions, made for lots of misunderstandings and tears on her end. Now she is nothing but smiles, hugs, tickles, and teasing. I tried ...

Hiking in Norway

... sticky stuff to trap bugs for the plant to feed on. It was all new and interesting. There was no path so we just wandered our way through the area...Ivar leading, of course. The wooded areas were rather sparse for trees, but I recognized pine and birch, however it was thick with ground cover that seemed familiar. We had walked at least 50 or 60 yards through it before Ivar pointed out that the wild Norwegian blueberries I'd been ...

The work permit.....not again!

... when she was 5, so while she can hear, she reads lips a lot and knows Norwegian Sign Language. It's been really fun trading words in English and Norwegian, and signs in Norwegian Sign Language and American Sign Language. Ah, and the work permit... I applied for the work permit in April, and finally found out it had been approved two weeks before I was suppossed to come here. I have 7 days from my entry ...
