Today was our last full day in California. The kids don't want to leave! I think we may have created some wander-lusting monsters! Both kids have said on different occasions they want to live here and Emily has already planned to apply to colleges in Southern Cali. oooh boy!

Hola. So the weekend was alright. Friday night shawn n I met up with Zachary and some of his buddies in PB. It was alright night. Saturday day was good. Zach came and picked me up round lunchtime and we went and surfed scrips all day. Shawn, gnarly and Brian were there too so we had a good crew. Surfed for about 4 hours so decent surf. ... we would need a whole day there so made sure we were there for it opening. (Which meant setting the alarm again!) only 5 miles across the bridge from Coronado it wasn't too early a start! We arrived at the Zoo and thankfully there were no queues. A lady approached us at the ticket gate and gave us a free 1 day membership pass which saved us around 30 dollars - cool. We boarded the tour bus, first ride of the day, again no queues which was good. ...
... eye on the car's engine temperature because of the outside heat. Lorrie suggested we turn off the AC and open the windows. We stuck our arms out the car windows - painfully hot! We estimate this was likely the hottest part of the trip, that the outside temperature had surpassed 120 degrees!
Remarkably, only a couple of hours later, we rolled in to San Diego and the temperature was very comfortably in the mid-seventies.
... didn’t have the right insurance for the car, maybe next time. We then left San Diego and our one night stop in Escondido about 40miles north of San Diego and the start of our journey to Palm Springs. Lovely food again but this time Thai which was nice and spicy which made a great change from the Mexican. Laundry night tonight so making good use of the industrial sized washer and dryers before noticing that we may have a disaster on our hands… the cooler box is leaking!!! ...
