Nice room, good price, fitness center still under construction. Nothing nearby for several miles except truck stops. No pool, no place to walk (too many trucks), no restaurants.

On Heather's suggestion, we travelled Highway 24 to Paducah Kentucky to see the National Quilt Museum. While Bob slept in the car I toured this magnificent display of hand made quilts from all across the country. Jaw dropping beautiful but couldn't take pictures and there were no postcards so will have to put to memory - the Hockey Quilt and the …

Driving in the car is more like an armchair ride, rolling along the highway in old luxury and style. Later in the afternoon I joined a tour of the Deutschheim State Historic Site -- two restored homes, a print shop, and a winery highlighting the heritage of the Hermann Germans. The tour guide ...

Left Springfield this morning and took the original 1926-1930 Route 66 which was based on Illinois Route 4. This branch of Route 66 has been returned to the original Illinois Route 4 designation. The road zig-zagged it's way through Chatham, Auburn and Thayer, one of the turns having a brick road. I stopped of in Virden which has a lovely town square where I saw the monument to the coal miners involved in a bloody dispute with the mine ...

        The Journey

As we continued on Gandalf kept appearing to us randomly telling us which way to go and to give us supplies. We never knew why he did not just stay with us because we enjoyed his company and his help. One lovely day, we came upon a vegetable field and we sat down to eat some of them because we were very hungry. As Fiona picked up a broccoli, it came to life and started screaming! All the vegetables in the garden started coming to life, ...
