Nice room, good price, fitness center still under construction. Nothing nearby for several miles except truck stops. No pool, no place to walk (too many trucks), no restaurants.

Today we woke up at Scott AFB, went for a walk before it got too hot, and headed down the road to St. Louis. We crossed the Mississippi River; it deserves the name of muddy Mississippi!

We went right into the museum under the Gateway Arch, bought our tickets, and were on our way up the arch within 20 minutes. It is an amazing structure …

Left Springfield this morning and took the original 1926-1930 Route 66 which was based on Illinois Route 4. This branch of Route 66 has been returned to the original Illinois Route 4 designation. The road zig-zagged it's way through Chatham, Auburn and Thayer, one of the turns having a brick road. I stopped of in Virden which has a lovely town square where I saw the monument to the coal miners involved in a bloody dispute with the mine ...

      Part II

We departed Hogwarts today with the intentions of reaching Lonely Mountain by tomorrow. Whatever it took for us to get to Voldesmaug was worth every effort, for the Arkenstone was the heart of history at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With me in the group was Hermione, Ron, Professor Snape, Sirus Black, and 13 dwarves who were friends of Gandalf: Thorin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bomber, Dori, Dwalin, Fili, Gloin, Kili, Nori, Oin, and Ori. ...

      Oversized Eagles

A travel blog entry by oliviaallwin on Feb 05, 2014

Now that everyone is present, we headed off again. Not very far into our traveling, trouble hit us. AGAIN. This time it was Wargs and goblins. We had to go in trees to get out of their reach, but then Goblins showed up and they can climb. But Gandalf saved us yet again. Huge eagles ...

      Get out of the BOAT!!!

... t step up to the plate, you will never know the glory of what it is to hit a homerun. I know most of you are bewildered by my sports analogy! But stick with me, I think I have a point. So many times in my life, I considered myself what Ortman describes as a “boat potato”. Never wanting to step out too far for fear of drowning in failure.

At the end of every email I send out I have a quote from an American author, Edward Everett Hale, which reads: "I ...
