    ... road was blocked, we joined the queue behind the cavalcade of police cars. They got waved through, but the park ranger told us that today the President of the United States was visiting the park. We could go on in, but much of the park would be closed for security reasons, and that if we didn't get out of the park by 2pm, then we wouldn't be allowed out until gone 6pm. We decided to go in anyway.

    Of course the best bits of the park were closed ...

    ... shade as of trees as temps were in the high 20's. The picturesque sunset was followed by a clear starry sky - we love it!! Several lakes & all the canals were created in the 1940 when roads created with lime stone (old sea bed) dug from below the water line. It wasn't profitable enough for the oil companies so they donated it to the Government for the Park.

    ... Essentially it is a 60 mile wide slow flowing river which creates a huge swamp. It isn't especially attractive, but it is home to Alligators. Out first activity of the day was a wetland walk.
