... town called Markleeville. I checked out the general store and found some unique bead belts from Brazil that I just could not resist. We continued on up into the alpine regions. More spectacular views, lots of huge rocks defying gravity by barely clinging to the mountainside. We did go through a couple of areas that were still muddy from fresh slides...gulp! Ebbetts Pass is a very narrow road with caution signs posted ...

... at this site the pictures are etched on small boulders, all of which were less than 3 foot high. It has been theorized that this art work was done while hunters were waiting for their prey to come down to a large lake that covered most of the area. We then traveled west on US Rt. 50 to “Carson City” and headed for the casino across the street for dinner and some time playing the slots.

... with water of beautiful greens and blues from emerald to sapphire, and very clear. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America with a depth of 1,645 feet. That makes it the second deepest in the U.S. In the bay we could see Vikingsholm Mansion at a distance. It was a castle-like home built by a Norwegian but I do not remember the details.

    ... in and out.

The scenery on the trip into Carson City was beautiful and varied. We were surrounded by mountains---the Sierra Nevada to the west and the Virginia Range to the east. We passed through rocky desert areas with little vegetation except for sage and chapparel. In places there were grasslands with grazing cattle and sheep. For a good while we followed a shallow, winding river.

... a great time. Picked it up really quickly.

Danna and Gracie went tubing and skating while we were on the slopes.

Weather was very different than last year, we had over 5 feet of new snow. Great coverage and the rental company was on it with the snow removal so getting out of our driveway was never an issue.

What I can't say enough is how lucky I felt as I was blessed to have my family with me, and celebrating all together as the Wong Gang was great.
