After getting up at a ridiculous hour, we finally departed Melbourne. We flew into torrential rain and flooding at Christchurch. This is the first time that we have proceeded without a booking and it seems that if you are in a tent there is no problem. There are no sites as we know them in Ontario and they can always squeeze another tent on the lawn if they have to.

After setting up the tent we set off for Milford Sound on what had become ...

... blue sky. We had breakfast gazing up at it and then walked to the glacier lake, on which floated a few icebergs, by 9am, glorying in the beautiful morning.

Sadly, we had to head off to the coast leaving behind Aoraki Mount Cook, heading for arguably the most intriguing day on our schedule as Saturday January 4th 2014 on our spreadsheet has had against it for months these words: Boulders, Cheese, Penguins.

It’s not often these three things are ...
