... some carnival games before we were beat tired! We went back to the hotel, cleaned up, and went out for some more shopping. I had a rough time trying to find something that I liked, in a size that was available. That night we went to a club called Mei Li Si Shi which translates to Beautiful Girl 44. This place was alot of fun. They had a 'show' before people go into the club. Kori got to participate, laying on the ground with four other ...
Changsha, Hunan Province, China aswanson... to climb down off of something. For all of my girls born in 1970, we are dogs. No offense! This means we are extremely loyal (true, I think) and . . . dumb. Hmph! Adam is a pig. (Ha! Ha!) Apparently dogs and pigs make the best marriages! His sign symbolizes riches. (I guess there's still time for that!) He says it's because he's "riche en amour". I'd like for this blog to be a bit more about our observations of China and Nanchang. I'm sorry that I ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... As it turned out, I spoke to soon about not getting a cold. I woke up at 4 am Thursday with golf-ball size glands, more dizziness, and a headache. But true to form, nothing has actually surfaced and I feel much better today. I wonder if maybe I have what Maia has, especially because she likes to stick her finger up her nose and then in her mouth and then in Mommy's mouth. Charming. So let me pretend it's Thursday. I'll give you an account of the day and then I can move onto ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... Their baby ate right away with the nanny and cheered up with her. But tonight at dinner, Mom and baby were laughing together and beginning to bond. I was happy for them both. Today was a day of firsts for us and Maia. Let's see, she went swimming! She was funny when I handed her to Adam in the pool (it was way too cold for me). Her little legs shot straight out and she tried to avoid going in at all costs. But she's a trooper. No crying or fuss. I think she tolerated ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... described. It's truly amazing. I feel badly for some of the other moms with us. One girl hasn't eaten anything since we got them, three are sick and on antibiotics, one sleeps all the time. Maia seems completely normal and is definitely the most active. We know she was her nanny's favourite, so we think she got special attention and probably a little more food. I don't think I told you about the meeting with her nanny. The afternoon of our ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... forget Nanchang has 4 million inhabitants so this Walmart was BIG. Our local guide had her Canadian flag with her at all times so we could find her for translations and plain old directions. I managed to converse with several employees and nice old ladies as I tried to find Maia a hat (hers itches) and a damn hooded towel! I did find a nosy sucker thing and was pleased about that. We got some other things. It is so incredibly cheap. In Canada our purchases would have cost easily $160 ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... for these kids; she wakes screaming but never really wakes and falls back into a slumber very quickly. So at 5 am we gave her a bottle. Yummy. Then we held her and she investigated us! By 6 we knew it was time to just give up and get up, so we sang to her. She likes our rendition of Rudolf (I'm the back up singer and finger snapper). She clapped and swayed and thoroughly enjoyed it. She is in a really good mood ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... instead but no way. Madame wants nothing to do with it. So we'll let that go for awhile. She pees each time we change her. Perfect huh? We just get her bum wiped and zincofaxed and then pee, oh, on the changing pad and on our friend's bed who was kind enough to show me how to give her a suppository. Adam is doing an awesome job. I must admit that I'm a wee wee bit jealous because she absolutely adores him. I'm the wipe her bum, get the snot out of her nose, pack ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... latreen, but much to my amazement my gag reflex did not kick in (although Jo did most of the heavy lifting on that one). There is so much to tell that it is hard to know where to start. I guess I will just go with it and you will get it in little bits and pieces. Joanna will also add her perspective... In general, the way things seem to work here in China is wait for the last minute, rush around like a group of lunatics, then wait! The other rule of thumb seems to be a ...
Nanchang, China thesteers... Poor thing. She must be so freaked out. I just wanted to let you know how she is. One, her nose is running with some greenish gook, so we think she must have something. We want to give her some medicine but are somewhat afraid of traumatising her with a suppository so early and with such inept hands. She wants nothing to do with her bottle (we've tried 3 now!) but she ate a cookie, some cereal and some sort of egg thing at ...
