... people will buy it without any second though. So the investors line up and the politicians line their pockets.

I have tried to fight against this idea in my head, but it has brought me nothing but frustration. So with this entry I am making a final stab with my cynical sword, but with no intent to penetrate the mind of another, but rather to cut the attachment and feverish desire that I have to use this sword in every moment. Because this month is about activation ...

My Kids

... of the consequences. It is only when fear is introduced to them that they truly change, however they are still quick to forget and can be frightened to tears in one moment and laughing the next. Fear is a boundary like that of an empty hole that forms from the inside out. This is such a foreign concept for a child's mind that they are unable to deal with it or to push back against it effectively. They are told to be afraid over and ...

Thanksgiving

... else might be to traumatic to our own sense of self to hear. Truly there are few things that are as entertaining and educational as interacting with your own family.

So beyond the food and the chat, I am very thankful for my wonderful family. Although I am seeing you less and less as the years pass, I appreciate you more and more. I wish you all a very thankful Thanksgiving and I hope that you will remember that no ...

Waning Moon

... their mind. Leaving a flame to burn slowly. All I can do with a little time. Trying to be a confusion. Under each veil, shattered illusions. No truth to be found, only conclusions. Finding the peak, but only from the valley can you understand it speak. A language not for the faint of heart. Deep and resonating, a sound understood through sight. So here I sit under the waning moon's light, my words pour forth, but try as I might, I can never capture it and get it just right.

"Teaching"

... as I am not being paid for travel time. I have a private car when I leave the school everyday, but there is usually another passenger who gets dropped off somewhere along the way to the school. However on the way back I take the schools private bus (except on Friday from the Fogang school) which drops of 3-6 kids at different points in the city. This delays my return home and dinner at least an extra 30-45 minutes instead of the 10-15 minutes for the direct route. Monday-Thursday I ...

The SHX School

... There were several 6 story buildings which I was told were the housing dormitories for the teachers and students. The car pulled up to the gate and we drove to the building where I would be living. My bags were unloaded and a security guard helped me lug them up to the 5th floor where my room would be.

The room was rather small but it was about what I had expected. It had several amenities: TV, DVD player, 2 desks, small closet, computer, fridge and freezer, hotplate ...

Arrival in China

... saw were all covered in what looked like trees. They were not your snow capped rocky mountains.

As we started to fly over Guangzhou I saw a lot of buildings and warehouses. It also started to rain pretty hard as we began to touch down. Once inside the airport I went through customs and collected my bags. They were all there and intact which was a relief. Then I made my way out of the airport and did not even have my bags ...

My first days in China

... The food on these flights is great-fresh, nicely arranged-not like airline food at all. The kitchen on the China Southern planes is the biggest I've seen! It covers the whole end of the planes. Exciting, eh? Finally, about 14.5 hours in, we began to descend and see land. That was exciting. It had been neat to see LA and that area from the plane but seeing China is really neat....it was cloudy and gray but it wasn't the U.S.! We deplaned-onto the tarmac ...

Caving is a bad idea

... to be in the foyer for 3pm for the Li river boat ride, so I was, but no joy. At 4:30 I got fed up and got the receptionist who speaks not a word of english to get him on the phone. "Ah, sorry, I meant 2, not 3." ggrr... Tomorrow is Pingnan for the rice terraces. Looking forward to it.

Beautiful Yangshuo

... a map we got lost within about 10 mins so ended up spending about another hour cycling along following the directions of locals who probably hadn't really understood our swimming actions! We gave up in the end and just jumped in the first bit of river we found, much to the amusement of the tourists going past on bamboo boats- they kept taking pictures of us and i know that's not because 3 of us were in bikinis! The water was a bit muddy but ...
