... We share a carriage with people from Aylesbury and Bristol and when we head to the ornate restaurant car for lunch it is bustling. At the border, the train stops for several hours so it can be adapted to the Chinese railway lines. We are driven into a siding, the carriages are noisily separated from one another and the bogies are changed. We pull in to Beijing the next morning exactly on time and just like that I've made it to China and the end of my pre-booked ...

Summer Palace was really cool and both girls said it was their favourite temple in Beijing, both having done a lot of Beijing already.

Having spent yesterday in the Forbidden city it made sense to be learning further about the development of the Chinese dynasties today. I won't bore you with, or most likely misrepresent, the facts but if you're ever in the mood for some history then learning about the Chinese civilisation is no poor choice.

... families had a family member who worked at the magazine with Michael’s mom.
As a young married couple, his parents were assigned a two room Hutong home (approximately 10 feet by 20 feet). Michael’s sister was born in 1967, but his parents were sent separately to a re-education camp for three years from 1971 to '73. They had only minimal contact with their daughter during this period. The family was reunited in 1973, and moved back to their two-room ...
