Pingyao! Freezing walled town!!

... squatties with no doors! Oh the shame! Staying in Fab hostel here. The kind that serves food from a menu in English, has western toilets, free internet and best of all vodka strawberry smoothies!

From Beijing to Pingyao

... tried not to notice. Well worth the terror though! Some parts of the wall were being restored and Nigel even tried to muck in a little bit to say he was involved in the construction of the Great Wall of China :-) We also visited a night market that displayed all sorts of culinary delights....various insects, star fish, sheep testicle and penis. We didn't fancy going all 'I'm a Celebrity' so we just stuck with a couple of lamb kebabs ...

ANOTHER courtyard???

... my lift. She left me with some very poignant thoughts and I'll hold her guidance very close to my heart.

The next day I took a little electric cart to catch the bus to Xi'An. The driver was late picking me up and I kept checking my watch as we puttered at a snail's pace down the road out to the highway where the bus would pick up people. It was so comical and I laughed out loud as I thought about a possible movie scene where I'd ...

Ruhe zwischen alten Mauern

Pingyao is lovely

... be a residence of a governer in the Ming dynesty. Although agter you have walked round the town a bit there isn't that much to do. On the first night (14th) we joined the staff in making dumplings (again see pics) which we then ate a lot of. We also drank some of the vodka bottle that I've (White) been carrying since Moscow to celebrate the day of luurve. Since then we haven't over exerted ourselves to ...

Walking Within The Ancient Walls of Pingyao

... to tell you where to go but you actually can. I didn't know this and left the Theatre Hall Grounds and walked back up around the block to the Confusions Temples main south gate. I spent about thirty minutes walking around the Confucius Temples grounds but really didn't find them that beautiful. I guess it just wasn't a temple day for me this day. When I decided to leave I looked on my map and it ...

Stopping off in Pingyao

... Laos which will definitely pay a visit to. After lunch we carried on cycling for about an hour or so, but decided to go outside the town walls!! Ooooo! We didn't know what expect, disease, poverty, zombies, who knows, but alas, it was just a normal Chinese town - people spitting, ******* and sh*tting in the street! We did find what looked like Pingyao football station though. However, on closer inspection, it was revealed that the ...

... to four and five star hotels in the other. Slightly confusing. The latter is good for achieving some degree of normality before heading back to Europe, while the former is very good for exchanging experiences with other people on the road, gaining great new ideas for future trips (don't tell my mum this), and as a general source of information (how do I get from A to B the cheapest?). And as a source of cheap beer. Speaking of which, time for a Snow. Cheers!

A Little Peace and Quiet in Pingyao

... when the avenues are lit up by red lanterns hung from shop fronts and the gates and towers are illuminated with strings of white lights surrounding the edges. Our hostel (Yamen Hostel) was fantastic; it had character oozing out of every crack. The building is a former Qing residence (a governor's) and filled with inner courtyards. We are now on our way to Xi'an, south of Pingyao, which is nearby one of the most famous of all ...

Inside the walls it is mainly still as it looked at the time of the ming dynasty, its a Unesco world heritage site too!! We havent been here long so cant say much about the place other than its ...
