Hurghada was on the way to Sharm El Sheikh from Luxor. It is supposed to be some nice resort town that actually turned out a bit disastrous. We wanted to come here and get away from the Egyptian people and to relax on a beach. Today, Hurghada seem to be one big building site. There are many new hotels going up. Many of them looked abandoned and …

... was not alone. ‘Not much room in here’ he said to his fellow hostage. ‘There was till you came in’ was the reply from John McCarthy. This was the first time the two had met. Terry Waite’s method of negotiating with hostage takers is simple enough. First make contact with the right people. Next establish a relationship of trust with the hostage takers and then try and find out their motivation. Then see if anything can be done. He draws a clear ...

El Gouna is a paradise for beach holiday along the red sea coast. You can even rent an apartment here for permanent home. It consists of 20 islands surrounded by picturesque lagoons and Arabic style architectures. You could easily access here by Go bus from Cairo or Hurghada.

The stay in our hotel, Arena Inn, is unforgettable. Due to low season now, it costs only USD33/night. After having a big ...

Our snorkeling tour started at 8:15a.m., we were transferred to the port for the our big boat. After collecting our masks and fins, we joined our group size of about 20. Most of the tourists can speak Arabic. Only 4 of us, two Chinese, 1 UK, 1 German speak English. Our tour guide is very professional which he made sure everyone is happy with the tour. First, we landed on the Giftun / paradise Island, beautiful crystal water and golden sand. ...

... I like to cook and so we went in an Egyptian spice shop. The shop keeper is so enthusiastic in explaining every spice in his shop. He also told us the recent politics issue they had in their country and the reason why they don’t like America. They wanted to control their own country by themselves. The tourism industry is getting worse by the news. It is safe to travel ...

It doesn't deserve 5 stars. Very nice interiors that were made poorly. The electrical outlets are sideways in the lobby exposing the wiring behind them. The nice chairs have stains and cigarette holes. When we arrived, they did not have our reservation and could not let us check in until someone from the head office confirmed it and we booked this hotel days before. I'm not sure what took more than two days to confirm this. My wife's I-phone copy of the reservation was not enough, so she had to go in the manager's office and forward them the reservation from her email because the internet access in the lobby cost money. This took 30 minutes. The food was not good. There is chicken on the barbeque everyday for lunch and they put what is leftover in a dish for dinner and add some kind of sauce to it. The fish was cold and uncooked. Sometimes the soup was cold. The rice was burned. The ice cream that is supposed to be available as a snack was never available. The pool bar was supposed to have pizza, but I am allergic to cheese and my wife doesn't like tomato sauce, but this pizza is pre made, so we were unable to take advantage of this. The room was full of mosquitos. The wife got bit over 20 times. We had laundry done for a promotional price of something like $16. This was cheaper than the normal paying by the item. We were having a romantic moment in the room when we got a phone call saying the laundry was done. I told them we would pick it up at dinner time. Minutes later, a man knocked on our door. My wife answered the door in a towel only. Five minutes later, we received another knock ruining our moment. Another hotel worker wanted to give us bottles of water, but I think this would be the first white girl he saw in a towel and the whole hotel was alerted looking for excuses to get a peak at her. These bottles should have been delivered when the room was being cleaned and this man actually opened the door with his room key before we had a chance to answer it. After looking through our laundry items, she had a nice lingerie set that was no longer pink and was now grey color. A T-shirt was no longer cream and was grey. Someone in the laundry room now has a pair of her underwear for a souvenir and never returned. We contacted management and they said "what do you want us to do?" It is their job to find a solution to this problem. These things happen in hotels, but certainly not in 5 star hotels. When we wanted to use the internet, we had to wait for the cashier, who was not available at all times. When we went to the lobby bar and wanted wine, the staff had to go to restaurant to get wine and put it in a water bottle before returning to give you a glass of wine 15 minutes later. The rum was cheap and watered down and it was very hard to get drunk. Our hotel was not on the beach and we had to take a shuttle there. The road to the beach was dirty and he parked in a muddy car park. The hotel shuttle door did not open from the inside and was very small. I'm not sure how it shuttles people in peak season with only fitting 7 people in the shuttle. When we asked for a cocktail on the beach bar, he grabbed a glass out of the fridge that already had some liquid in it. He dumped the liquid out and poured our drink in that glass.
